This is me – a legal alien in America, a poet, and a "Hans-guck-in-die-Luft" as my German fellows call me
Happy Sunday! I am new to this platform and I'd like to introduce myself.
Hi fellow Steemians,
My name is Lea Geschwinder, I'm an experienced journalist, and I joined this platform to inspire and get inspired, share my love and find companionship.
I have always been curious about the world, an adventurer who thinks outside of the box. I studied English and Comparative Literature and Cultures in Bonn, Germany and started working in media when I was still in High School.
I worked at Endemol as a content creator (a popular German TV production company), interned at one of the most successful German shows called "Circus HalliGalli" and ended up writing and interviewing bands like KISS for one of the biggest German newspapers called EXPRESS. When I moved to NYC, I started working as a video host and producer at Refinery29. What started as an internship turned into my passion. I hosted my own show and produced progressive content for three years, challenging myself to get better every day.
As I was sailing the ocean of new and first experiences, I had loads of questions. Do I have to hide my femininity to be respected at work? Do I have to fit in categories to be successful in a business that is based on networking? Is it wrong to talk about taboo topics in order to free this world from limiting concepts? Do I have to stick to manmade hierarchies and hold my tongue more often? The answer is simple: Hell no!
When I moved to New York about three years ago, I didn't know a single soul, which was scary and liberating at the same time. I felt very lonely, but I also had the chance to focus on myself.
Instead of looking outward, I started to look inward. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and curious wonderings about our society. I finally decided to share all of this with you. There are more people struggling in unknown waters than you would think. I hope that me sharing my experiences will help prepare some of you for the strong waves, light breezes and troubling storms of feelings, revelations, and doubts that will hit you on your trip through the ocean of experiences.
I created "Finding the Zen in Journalism" with a mission to heal through my art, to ask questions that help people reflect, unify and love. Healing yourself is where healing this world begins.
Please leave an upvote or a comment, if you feel what I am saying. I'll give the love back, and I'm excited to be part of this community!
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
xx,
Lea
Lea, I'm from Oregon but I lived in the state of New York during college. I once visited NYC and it was interesting, pretty big. I think about moving there. I'm near Seattle, was in Vietnam. My sisters moved to NYC. Some people call NYC the best city in the world. People all around the world are drawn to it. Some of my ancestors might have been German.
Hi Joey,
Thanks for your lovely comment. I think New York is a mixture of a lot of things. It can be the greatest city of the world, but it is also pretty fast-paced, competitive, and anonymous. It really depens how we look at it, and what we make off of it. How do your sisters like it?
My sisters like it. I was living in Ho Chi Minh City, AKA Saigon, Vietnam for 5 years until 217. It has over 10 million people in and around that city, that province. It's the biggest city in Vietnam. I was teaching English in Vietnam. Now, I'm near Seattle. But I like big cities as long as I'm networking, meeting new people, doing things. I like fast-paced lifestyles when I'm trying to do a bunch of things really quickly. But long-term speaking, it may be tough to keep up that pace forever. I may reconsider moving back into larger cities in the future but I do prefer farms.
I agree, life is what we make of it.
Hello Lea, you are lovely, you seem to love to laugh, my name is Joey, and I love to write as well. Nice to meet you.
Thanks for your kind comment. I actually do love to laugh. How about you?
Nice to meet you, and I'd love to stay connected here on Steemit.
Hello, I'm good. We got snow outside. It's beautiful. Laughter will keep you younger longer, Lea.

Welcome to steemit!
Hey! Welcome to Steem (And America haha)! My grandfather's grandfather immigrated to America from Germany in 1865. His last name was Nuthmann, but he dropped one of the Ns when he got here because he thought it sounded more American. lol!
I am always interested to meet people from the land of my ancestors! I'm looking forward to reading and learning more about you! Welcome!
Hi there, thank you for your kind welcome!
This just made my day. I love starting conversations, sharing opinions, and finding companionship in a world that seems to be drifting apart. This is why I love blogging. Thank you for sharing your story and I'd love to hear more about your grandfather's journey as well.
I am glad that I could bring a smile to your face! Pehaps a will make a post about my grandfather's journey.
Thanks for the idea!
Welcome to Steemit @leasophiag! Nice to read your introduction. I'm a 'colleague' and can very much relate to your words here. I left journalism for quite a while because I felt disillusioned. Steemit brought me back. Living in Ireland but Dutch and used to live in the US. I partly grew up in Germany. I am looking forward to read more from you.
Oh, and Endemol is a Dutch production company 😉. The Dutch come up with something good too sometimes.
Thank you for your kind comment! Nice to meet some fellow journalists on Steemit. My bad, you're very right. Endemol is Dutch, I'll change that up. Thank you for making me aware of that!
You are beautiful! I hope you're going to have the best time here. Wish you all the best.
:)
Thank you for your kind comment! :)
I am excited to be part of the Steemit-community and explore, exchange, inspire, and connect with all of you. Have a great Sunday and stay in touch!
