The man behind the mask
Hi everyone.
I thought it would be time to introduce myself and share a bit about who I am, what I do and how that all came to be.
My name is Lasse and I was born in the small, cosy safe haven of Denmark, where I spend most of my childhood and teenage years.
In my late teens I started getting very curious about the world outside my little cheese, bacon and rye-bread infested country. This ultimately resulted in a 4 month solo trip to India which altered the course of my life in some pretty drastic ways. I won't go too much into the story of my travels there, as that could be a post in itself.
Basically I became somewhat of a nomad, a wanderer, traveler and seeker of higher purpose and meaning in this world.
For the last 5 years I've been residing more or less permanently in Australia. I decided to come here out of curiosity, I wanted to see what would happen if I simply went somewhere with no plan, and let life take me to where I need to be. Looking back this seems a bit mad, but I could not have foretold what would unfold on my travels here.
My life now is completely different to what it was just 3 years ago. I'm an artist now, I paint pictures and I'm 100% devoted to this practice. I had no clue I had any creative potential before I came to Australia, or now in hindsight I can see that it has always been present in me, but for some reason I spend many years as a teenager and early twenties battling depression and anxiety, probably caused by not doing my art.
Obviously (as seen in the photo above) it was always there, all my fondest memories as a kid was about creating things, drawing, painting or creating little worlds with my toys. Yet somehow I forgot, but I wouldn't change a thing, because all these experiences have brought me to exactly where I am now.
A couple of years ago I had a life altering experience with ayahuasca and from that point on it was clear as the night sky, that I had to paint. I was shown how that this is what I came here to do, and as strange as that have been to accept, this is what I do now, I paint and trust that life will take me to where I need to be.
Plant medicines have had a massive impact on my creative unfolding, and it's hard to imagine where I would be without these experiences. Drawing and painting started happening after this experience, and at it's core, art is a therapeutic/healing activity. I could sit for hours, and let my mind wander off, and in this space I could process emotions and let everything that needed to come up to the surface do so.
These where some of my first drawings, experimenting with colors and form, and experiencing internal narrative as the pieces would come to life on the paper and in my mind.
My art seemed to grow really fast and it felt more aligned than I had ever experienced in my life before. Opportunities arising left right and center, but I always kept my focus on simply sitting down and drawing or painting, as this is the center of it all. I truly believe everything else will take care of itself, as long as I just stay with the process and keep working through whatever arises to be seen. This doesn't mean I don't do anything else than painting, I do lots of things, but painting appears to be something that is happening moreso than me doing it, so I'll keep following that feeling.
I'll stop writing now, to keep it somewhat short. I hope to share much more with you all in time.
Here's a few of the paintings and drawings I've created over the last couple of years, hopefully it gives a sense of the journey I've been on, which is still very much going on. Next step for me is teaching my first workshop for 14 people on Friday, which will be a massive step up for me as I now have to try and pass something on to other people. I'm excited and continually humbled by this path. Never have I done anything so fulfilling.
There is so much more to be shared, but this should do for now :)
Enjoy and feel free to ask any questions.
Looking forward to connecting with you all.
Denmark to India to Australia! Seems like you have traveled a lot to finally reach your destination/destiny. A lots of ups and downs I guess.
By the way, your arts are really extraordinary. Are those digitally painted?
If you explore the platform you will find a lot of similar minded people who love arts and they are conducting various contests. I bet you will find them interesting.
Anyway, Welcome to this great platform. Show the world what you have to offer :)
Tips for newbies : How to give a fractional upvote when your SP is below 500?
Two of them are digital. Based on drawings. Starting to explore the digital realm a bit more, but an avid lover of oil painting :) thank you.
@lassetopbjerg I am speachless brother. I was blessed to meet you ever so briefly at Flow festival, and I remember seeing you working on your art there and being blown away. But these pieces are just exquisite my man.
I saw the invite for your workshop... I felt a real pull to come, even though much like yourself, I never saw myself as a creative artist, I am finding more and more every day it is starting to pour out of me, like a dam with holes beginning to break open.
I trust your workshop today goes amazing and I will be on the list for your next one!
Really looking forward to seeing more of your posts and will resteem away to help share them around!
Thank you! My work has grown a lot since flow festival. It's exciting to see, experience and share. I'm about to uproot my life in Australia and head to Bali, without any real plans, just trusting deeper in my creativity and expression. If you have any contacts there feel free to pass them on, hope to find inspiring people and places :)
I do indeed have some contacts for you over there. ;) When are you heading over?
11th of march. Just looking for a place to do some painting and relax for some time, or even just a good place to land and find my feet. Around Ubud preferably
Ok great. Yeah can introduce you to a few people who will enjoy your magic. ;)
You will have no shortage of inspiration I am sure. Would you have time to catch up before you leave Perth for a chat? Otherwise we can do it digitally.
I'm down in Margaret River for now, just taking some time to unwind and relax. If I remember correctly you're out Nannup way yes? If not, then I'll be up Fremantle way after the weekend for a bit. Just taking things as they come right now, but finding an awesome flow, which makes me really excited for what's to come.
