Cameroon, Africa & Los Angeles, CA Unite - Ghalil & Kopus (Hello!)
I met Ghalil Einstein around four years on Craigslist. I needed a DP for some comedy sketches, my Improv group was producing. My first impression was Ghalil is a no nonsense, hard worker looking for opportunity in a foreign land. It seemed to be a theme at the time in my group. Claudia was from Canada her and her husband agreed she would move to Los Angeles to pursue her acting dreams. Sina was from Bangladesh. To the disappointment of his family, he dropped out of Med School to become an actor. The kinds of risks these people were taking to live their dream were not only admirable, they were motivating.
I really wanted to win for my team. I worked every angle I could imagine at the time, and we did achieve some level of success. We went on a local tour with our comedy group. The tour was mostly successful, and it was one of the best experiences in my life.
Unfortunately, for various reasons our comedy troop split up in different directions. No hard feelings, just greater opportunities and challenges for us to independently pursue.
It took a while but Ghalil and I reconnected last year. Instead of working on comedy. This time we worked on some music. A lot of things had to fall into place in order for us to work on this song together. It's one of those things that are just meant to be.
