Response to Vitalik Buterin‏ post to followers about the dichotomy of words

Vitalik Buterin‏ recently posed the question to his Twitter followers about the different meanings of words in cultures. Please read and see my response.

So the "individualism vs collectivism" dichotomy sometimes puzzles me. I often see the two words used in two senses:

1. Individualism = individual freedom, collectivism = mutual restraint
2. Individualism = caring only about yourself, collectivism = caring about common good

Me:
Any words can perverted to an extreme into automatic IF-THEN thinking. Context matters, but in regions that practice too much individualism (USA) and collectivism (RUSSIA) the powerful abuse internal IF-THEN thinking that does not consider "WHEN"?

IF WHEN THEN thinking requires us to consider the SYSTEM and CONTEXT while IF WHEN is an automatic response for the traditional thinking, without regard to changes in the current or new context.

There have been many books about these behavioral science findings such as Drive by Daniel Pink and the upcoming book WHEN. It's also discussed in the book Pre-Suasion: A Revolutionary Way to Influence by Robert Cialdini.
