The Old Kenamre Road

Hi everyone! I'm new to the Steemit platform. I'm a pro-photographer but I also write a little, so now I'm looking to create something a bit different by combining the two, or creating something new, entirely. I just had my account approved today, and I've no idea what I'm doing, so here's a photo I took in one of my favorite places in the world.

The Old Kenmare Road is a hiking trail in County Kerry, Ireland, which connects the picturesque coastal town of Kenamre to the picturesque inland town of Killarney. The road was first described in the 1700's and was used by British troops as a means to access the center of County Kerry from the small port at Kenmare. Apart from written historical records of British troops using the road, there's physical evidence there still today, as graffiti, carved into a rock at the foot of Torc Mountain (seen illuminated by the morning light in the background). The inscription reads: "James Neill Tippy Rgt [Tipperary Regiment] 1815".

The trail is one of my favorite hikes in and around Killarney National Park, and the light rarely fails to impress, even if it decides to peek through the dark clouds for just a few moments.

One day i will be there

It's a beautiful place, kryptoraport. Dzięki za komentowanie! :)

That is a great shot of a beautiful area! I personally don't like what this season is doing to the landscape with everything turning so brown. It even looks a bit like Connemara this way! Just thinking of it, would a series of 4 season work here?

Thanks! That's a pity. I love the brown, almost desolate, hues of winter, and I love Connemara for that very reason. I find there's a certain romanticism to this kind of bleakness. But each to their own, I guess!

Not sure if you could capture a full four seasons here. Because the habitat is primarily heath and upland, blanket bog, the valley areas are almost always some shade of brown. The mountains do, however, turn green with slight shades of purple and lilac from the heather during the summer.

It's a nice idea, though. I could just do another one in the summer. Thanks for the suggestion!

A 4 season thing would be more obvious if there were more trees, but the fields (in Ireland) have many colors too. I love the purple. Do they have the yellow plants here as well?

Yes, we have plenty of wonderful yellow wildflowers in Ireland, but in these uplands, flowers, in general, are hard to come by. They are often quite tiny.

Ah! You won't find much of it in the boggy areas, but you will see it on the mountain side. In fact, if you see the side of a mountain on fire in the summer time in Ireland, it's because the farmers are burning off the gorse and heather. During the nesting period this is illegal, but they do it anyway because it's really hard to secure a prosecution. :(

Yes, I heard it often doesn't go that well and sets more on fire than planned ;)

Can I suggest you take a look at http://www.steemitworldmap.com/? You can add the location of the photos there and it gives you a little more visibility. This way your readers don't have to google the exact location of your photo ;) (cc: @steemitworldmap)

Lol. That is normal. However, you worked out how to post something to steemit worldmap, so that's a good start.

I did indeed, choogirl. @r00sj3 was kind enough to fill me in on worldmap. Thanks, though!
