Why did I Join Steemit? - Grail
When cryptocurrency went mainstream, December 2017, despite knowing little to nothing about investing, or cryptocurrency I decided to buy Litecoin (LTC) when it was around $90. This was exciting because not only did I get a taste of investing but it turned out to be a success. The only downside was I didn't have the capital to continue to grow my portfolio, and I still felt as if I didn't have proper knowledge to pursue crypto further. As time went on crypto grew bigger and stronger, until the market tanked. Long story short, my interest in crypto began to diminish, and I moved away from the scene for quite some time because in reality I wasn't successful.
The first couple times I heard about Steem I would just ignore it because I really had no interest in the subject, I didn't have the capital, so in my head I decided what's the point of getting involved if I cant afford a decent amount of this coin. Then I read an article about Steemit, and quite frankly I was hooked. Not only can I learn about cryptocurrency, I can earn cryptocurrency but sharing things I enjoy with the world! Im currently studying Environmental Science at University, and anyone reading this must think Im crazy for being on Steemit, but thats the beauty of this platform. We all have a common interest, cryptocurrency, but from there we are given the chance to share thoughts and ideas that have nothing to do with crypto but are equally informative.
Being on Steemit, I could easily post completely unless, and uninteresting stuff, but this platform gives me the opportunity to share the shit I like, I love astronomy, I love the ocean, I love exotic plants, and I have an endless amount of information on those subjects stored in my head and Id love the share them with you. Other things may include the occasional sneaker, or various other cool clothing, and a possible meme or two, but dont worry I dont want to clutter my feed with that stuff.
The picture I attached to this post was taken with my GoPro Hero 4, and its of a bonfire. Lots of stories are shared around bonfires so I thought this it went well with this post.
Im glad I was able to share this story with you, and I hope to share more in the future!
What information would you share with someone new to this platform?
Any suggestions of informative Steemit blogs I should follow?
Welcome!! I’m sure you’ll find lots of people here that share your common interests!!!

One suggestion based on:
I would take at look at @steemstem; They are the
Community Project to Promote Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Postings on Steemit
a pretty good group of people, and very smart people. There are a lot of crypto communities on steemit, so I am sure you will find one with the right fit. Some are strictly crypto, and some are more open about other topics.
There is no real centralized place for getting help, so as a new user I could recommend @newbieresteemday, (I am a member), a loosely knit group of people that try to help onboard new users. There are several groups out there that do try to provide help. If you ever get stuck about something you can just type my name in a comment anywhere and ask a question and I will try to help, preferably a comment on one of your post or my post. (Some people get real upset at off topic subjects on their post).
Be careful about how often or frequently you use your vote, and how you use your vote. Never let anyone tell you you need to give them a vote just because they left a comment on one of your post, there are assholes on steemit, just mute them and move on.
Learn a little bit about Discord Chat, or Steemit Chat, a lot of things happen in those areas and chat rooms. It seems there is a chat room for just about anything, and it can be very easy to get overwhelmed with the number of discord chat rooms one ends up collecting over time. (I have had to do two room prunings since I first started discording chats.).
And the number one thing I think every new user who want to earn SBD's and STEEM, needs to do is get an @dustsweeper account, strongly recommend you read a couple of their post and the comments to get an understanding of the vote power (SP), and how it works. Then with your first $0.500 re-invest it in yourself. It will be well worth it.
Well that I think is enough, for now if you have any questions like I said, just use my @ name and I will see that you mentioned me, and will come take a look.
@bashadow I'll look into all of this, thanks!
You are welcome, enjoy your time, have fun, maybe make a lot of steem. It will be and can be what you want it to be here.

Hey grail. You seem like an interesting individual, welcome to steemit!
If you stick with it, I think you'll probably be glad you did. And yeah.. If you look at it more just about.. Learning and being a part of a community I think you'll do better and have the better attitude, a lot come for the money and leave when it doesn't happen fast enough.. But.. If you really take your time and genuinely interact with others and network and make good friends, I think just about anyone can do well on here. However mindset is really important! And.. Interacting with people. In my opinion anyways! I'm sure some do well basically just spamming and never responding to people cause they have huge audiences.. But for most people, I think it's smart to pay attention to comments and try to respond to all of the legit ones.
On that note there's a lot of bots and fake profiles and it's a mess sometimes to figure out, there's also scammers and attempts to steal your account and info, so.. Be wary and you should prolly spend some time learning about ways to protect your account at some point.
In addition to that, I would suggest taking part in some of the contests on here, they are a great way to earn extra steem and make new friends and just to have some fun as well. I suggest looking into #newbiegames and #newbieresteemday and other similar communities! Communities are really important on here as I mentioned above, this is social media.. So.. Those who are good at being social tend to do well! Anyways.. I think that's enough for now, good luck on here and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask! I don't know everything, but I might be able to help or at least find someone who can. :)
Thanks for the warm welcome, and the info. Ill take it all into account and look into it! :)
You're welcome. :)
Warm welcome from me and all steemit community. our support is always with you. Best of luck dear
