How I fell in love with Australia and how my dreams became part of my lifestyle.

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit! My name is Eva and I'm a girl living in a beautiful European country, Slovakia.

(on the way to Jahnaci Stit (2230m), High Tatras)

I couldn't be more happy to say that, because I was born in a loving family covered with very inspiring and smart people. Working in IT field with my economic degree, creative hobbies and adventurous mind, I'm still exploring my possibilities ☺. At the end of last year I've been offered a new job position within the same company as an Application Developer and I'm starting next month. Quite challenging begin of the year 2018 and I'm honestly looking forward to it! :)

(me and my fiancé Michael in Tatras )

Just before my high school graduation I fell through climbing and mountain hiking. During my university studies I've spent most of my spare time in our charming Slovak mountains - High Tatras -not only gaining climbing experience, but also deepening my passion and love with nature. My ideal vacation is walking to the steep hill, climbing, traveling or doing all kinds of sport. The more exhausted I get, the more satisfied I feel. My closest people would say about me that I don't know where my limits are and that's true. That's why I need to explore, keep trying, go and look at whatever is possible for me.

Ever since I can remember, it's always been my secret dream to travel to Australia explore the nature. I thought it would remain just a secret dream forever since in our country it wasn't so common to travel across the world that time. But after my graduation I've met my distant Australian uncle who has been in Slovakia for a holiday and he invited me to Australia! Before that I didn't even know he exists! It was like another dream.. At first I thought it's just couple of words and I cannot just leave for few weeks. I had a job but still didn't have much money- I just finished my studies.
Then I realized it's only up to me what decision I take and how will I spend 6 weeks of my life.
And.. guess what? :) Of course I used that wonderful and unique opportunity. I met many beautiful people, few of my distant family members and their friends. I felt like in paradise. I got used to that positive and enthusiastic mindset of Australians so quickly, that I decided to come back again with my boyfriend, as soon as possible.

(first time in Australia, patting a koala)

(Australia is full of cute and friendly parrots like this)

It took us less than 2 years to plan and make come true this another dream. We got 9 weeks of unpaid leave at our jobs, flew to Australia and bought a campervan which became our new home for next 2 months.

(our lovely home, Toyota Hiace. My uncle painted it like this. Isn't it awesome?)

This way we have traveled half a continent and were absorbing experiences like a sponge. I can't even describe with words how amazing this roadtrip was! But I will definitely write several articles about it ☺ I want to tell you about the people, how I was learning to surf, how we celebrated Christmas in desert near Uluru and how we dealt with a huge spider in our car during the cyclone, about our broken car on the New Year' Day , or how i got stung by bluebottle jellyfish.

(almost everything in Australia is red! :) )

We were so enchanted by this place that later on we decided to try to find a job and move to Australia (still hard working on it). I know it's gonna be tough and I'm not sure whether we succeed or whether we will like that 'other' life. But I'm hundred percent sure that I would regret not trying this while I could.

Week after week I realize how fast my life passes. I would like to learn so many things, I have elaborated so many micro projects and I know my main problem is time. Every day I get up at 5:30 and study English for IELTS exam (International English Language testing System), that I would like to take this year. It´s the first step necessary on my way towards my next dream.
Except this big Australian Dream, climbing, hiking and traveling, I also love spending my time with friends on slackline (walking on the rope), writing a book (yes, about our Australian Roadtrip! ☺ ). I´m also experimenting with computer (vector) graphics and learn 3d modelling.

Looking forward to reading all those inspiring and interesting articles, Steemit people!

(OK. Just one bad thing about Australia: There are so many flies that you're forced to keep moving all the time ;) )

Welcome Eva. What a beautiful introduction. I hope that all your Australian dreams come true <3

Thank you for your nice words :)

If I were you, I would have fell in love too
I have a thing for cute and pretty animals too

viktor08 - the problem with Australia is those cute and cuddlies will take chunks out of you if they fet frightened, threatened or annoyed. An nobody told me what annoys a possum or a koala.

They look cute when held in photos in a controlled environment, but I would never try picking up a wild koala.

Thanks for the heads up dear
I'll proceed with caution on any encounter and I didn't know there were wild koalas

Oh, yes. We haven't managed to kill off all the wild life, yet. We are working hard on it though with land clearing, habitat destruction, mining, pollution and feral animals and diseases. Damn Koalas live in trees though so are hard to find and hard to get to, so we haven't killed all of them off. Mind you, the chlamydia they have is doing a fair to middling job of knocking their numbers down.

On a more serious note, yeah we still have wild animals. No you do not want to go playing with and petting any of them. Possums bite and scratch, koalas have claws a couple of inches long, and use them well, I have seen a fox gutted by one when it was stupid enough to think the koala on the ground would be easy prey. Kangaroos are down right nasty buggers, I was attacked by one for the loaf of bread I was carrying. Luckily he was not large, but I still have the scars on my arm. Cassowary are the worlds most dangerous bird, emus not far behind. Magpies, swooping season is legendary in Australia.

Respect the animals and you come to no harm, play with them and you could be in for a shock.

Got it bit that's a bit of some surprise there, koala gutting a fox.it would be interesting

Wow, it seems to me you have some interesting experience with wild animals. What you write about , that' s true. People don't expect cute looking animals to be so dangerous. But that' s good, it' s their only protection against us, people.
