Growing and Cooking - Being healthier and wealthier in a city
Hi there,
Great to meet all of you i have just come onto to Steemit after a bit of a wait and i am delighted to be apart of the community.
I'd like to share our experiences with trying to improve our quality of life and saving money in the process particularly when it comes to probably one of the most crucuial components in our life, Food!
So first a little background about myself:
I'm 29, male and currently living in the city which for someone from a rural area can be a bit of a challenge. Myself and my partner work about 40 hours a week each which i'm sure alot of you are no strangers to. Now there is no secret that the cost of living is going way up, and our money is not only buying less food than it used to, but worse quality also. This can be quite a challenge when alot of us live quite busy lifestyles with work generally dictating a good portion of our day, there isnt much left for looking after ourselves and convenience tends to intervene.. At a big price. We were spending so much on food everyday just trying to survive and found ourselves getting unhealthier and unhappier.
I was horrified recently when i went to a well known supermarket here in Ireland and the UK to get a cooked chicken when i came home from work. It cost £7 and when i got it home expecting it to feed myself, my partner and her mother who was visiting for the day, it was literally the size of my hand. This is a trend that has been going on for years and i believe it isnt going to get better. So we have taken the first steps for change in relation to this by growing our own vegetables in the middle of the city :)
Cant forget the salad stuff
So the reason why i joined the Steemit community is because like alot of you we are looking for alternatives, looking to make a change and be part of something. Community doesnt have to mean the people living beside you (we live in an apartment building in the city where alot of people dont even speak english so we cant communicate), for me a community is a collection of like minded people getting together no matter where we are in order to improve our own and eachothers lives.
So i would like to share not only our Journey in making ourselves healthier and spending less of our hard earned money surviving in a big Urban area, but also a skill i have developed over years which i hope will be helpful for alot of you in your own lives, Cooking. In the process i also would love to improve our lives and get ready to raise a family, by learning from all of you.
Like anything the best way to do something is stop thinking about it and start doing it. We have been living by this philosophy more and more, it's why we started our own veg and we will be looking to expand it and do our own DIY Hydroponics which we will be documenting and sharing our experiences on, and it's the reason why i am writing this as my first ever blog post.
I look forward to sharing experiences with you all, helping save money on day to day expenses while increasing food health and happiness with recipes developed over the years and above all else learn from your skills and lessons and use them to increase our succsess in life.
So lets stop thinking about what we are going to do and just jump in and do it :)
