Introduction - Hello Steemit People!
My name is Espen Helland and I’m from a wet place called Bergen in Norway.
For the last decade and a bit, my path has brought me to Scotland to study Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Graduating in 2009 it took me a few years of volunteering before landing a job as an ecologist. This job took me all over Scotland to monitor birds, mammals and vegetation for proposed developments such as wind farms and power lines. Working as an ecologist is a delicate balance of wanting to protect wildlife, but having to do so by working with developers to find the most realistic way to do so. When my company wanted to get involved with fracking I thought it was a move in a backwards direction, and I seriously started to doubt my role as an ecologist.
I decided that it was time to part ways and I started working for myself as an ecologist. This move gave me a lot more free time, and I used this time to practice another passion of mine, namely photography. I had been a hobby photographer for years, really enjoying taking photos of wildlife. Now, however, I had time to take my hobby to a new level and I found enjoyment in other types of photography as well.
After a visit to Thailand in 2016 with my girlfriend, we came back thinking: why limit ourselves to Scotland? We decided to make our businesses location independent and subsequently sold our flat in Scotland. It was time to take my passion for photography and make it my main business.
Since June 2017 we have travelled to France, Montenegro, Croatia, Norway, Vietnam and Thailand. We currently rent a flat in Chiang Mai where we intend to stay for a few months of 2018 while further exploring southeast Asia.
I’m very excited about being part of the Steemit community and I’m hoping to learn a bit more about cryptocurrencies (I’m a complete newbie), and connect with similar minded people about photography, nature and life.
