I believe that every human mind feels pleasure in doing good to another. - Thomas Jefferson

We fully agree, Thomas.

Welcome to Dreams of the Ocean, the first Steem-financed surf charity project.

This social initiative aims to support kids in need through outdoors and watersports activities. We firmly believe that salty water is able to cure many things. Even if it's not able to solve all our problems, it definitely makes them look smaller.

Salty water is fuel to our wild souls.

Living our 'Dreams of the Ocean' 🐋

When ressources are getting short, the ones that suffer most are the younger ones.

Most of the time they are not even responsible for their own situations, but they have no possibilities to change it either. Economical problems often lead to social restriction - people get isolated.

We want to change that with the help of Steem!

These are our core beliefs:

  1. The power of the Ocean
  2. The importance of transparency, efficiency and trust in charity
  3. The future potential of Steem (and cryptocurrencies in general) and
  4. The possibility to melt these three first points in one mission

'Dreams of the Ocean' is a door opener that takes kids out off their daily routine in order to broaden their horizons.

Our very first charity event already took place on the 21st of October.

In cooperation with our local partners on Canary Islands - the Red Cross and Calima Surf - the first group of 15 kids enjoyed a day at the beach including a 5 hours surf training.

You know that you're doing the right thing when you see these kids smiling.

The next event is scheduled for the 28th of October.

We're hoping that a local TV channel will cover the activity. Fingers are crossed!

Stay also tuned for the live-stream from @steemfest (2nd to 3rd of November) where @surfermarly will present all the details: https://www.youtube.com/steemit. The exact date and time will be communicated soon!

In our next blog posts we will also inform you about the media coverage we've already generated for steemit.com. Our first activity at the beach was features in several local newspapers.

It felt extraordinarily good to see what a great response these activities are able to generate. We hope that we're able to animate much more people to contribute to the cause.

Do you want to become 'a dreamer', too?

If you want to support @dreamsoftheocean, then you might consider a donation of Steem or SBD to our account. 100% of the funds will be used for the cause, we guarantee full transparency.

There are infinite ideas we're having about future projects.

For the time being we will focus on taking the kids out to the beach an teaching them how to surf. In the future these activities may be complemented. During the first event we've already noticed that there are some kids who have an extraordinary talent for surfing. To support and promote them - for instance by providing them with their own surfboard - may one many following steps.

We'll be definitely not short in ideas! :-)

As a matter of course, all donators will be mentioned in our future publications in this blog.

Let's make a difference!

Thanks for your support,

The dreamers

This is terrific. Helping kids and helping people understand the ocean. Voted big and re-steemed.

Thank you so much for your outstanding support, Tom!
Only with the rewards from this post we will be able to make another group of kids happy. That's simply awesome!

shouldn't charity be done for orphans and homeless kids in order to secure food shelter medics or even education..does sporting really deserves charity?

That's an interesting question and I talked about it with my local partner, the Red Cross. Before starting the events we had a long meeting where we evaluated different possible activities. I told them that I'd love to do something with watersports since this is my field of interest and since I know how powerful the Ocean is. It may not solve every problem, but it definitely helps to make people feel better. The Red Cross fully agreed. They said, that physical activity may be as important as providing food to them. Their social environment is very restrictive, so they ususally don't have the opportunity to leave home and enjoy nature.

So to answer your question: yes, we believe that these activities deserve charity. But of course, everybody is completely free to support us or support other institutions that are merely focussing on food supply and medical help. I think you can't ever do enough charity :-)

Charity is charity as long as its done with a pure heart and without the intention of making a direct profit from it. Yes its a good cause to motivate kids in doing some sports which is helpful for their health. I totally understand after you replied me here, now I think when more and more people fall in love with the ocean, eventually it is helping humanity as a whole. I bet in the ancient time when people would move stocks using horses and carts were very time consuming and limited in quantity, but because some people fell in love with the sea, large ships and containers are build and with that now we can deliver thousand tons of supply from one place to another far away place. Yes now I understand, we have this opportunity to send food or medicine using sea route at a very low cost. And yes we have more food available for us under the sea itself.

Well i hope to change this type of thinking by my demonstrations someday.. I teach/refresh maths and science within my swimming lessons to young learners because it relates to the activities.
I'm currently teaching swimming.
My emphasis is on developing a confident, healthy child with critical thinking skills.
I hope you don't judge all teachers and coaches under one umbrella. We not all air heads. We just love keeping active and know the importance of a healthy, fit lifestyle and how it fits into prosperity.
Your question shows us why we keep on pressing on to do this with the youth - nobody seem to want to help/support or don't see the importance of what we do.
Come into the water and experience it for yourself, that's the only way to answer your own question.

Nicely said, @coachjoachim!
I'm glad you jumped in and shared your own experiences from a professional point of view. My partners from the Red Cross told me something very similiar. They said: "A day at the beach might have a stronger impact on their lives in the long run than anything else." Yes, they need food, school books, clothes and a lot more. However, health (including fitness and sports) comes always first.

Best of luck for your own doings!
