The fact that what you feel physiological has such an intimate connection with how you feel psychologically bothers me. When we are hungry, we are not happy. Perhaps we are irritable. All because of the lack of these...molecules in our system. It baffles me beyond belief. The complexities of thought and ego and the self all being predicated on and being undeniably influenced (determined?) by the metaphorical chains that is the body. what. the. heck.

It bothers me that the physical and the mental are one and the same--that if you alter my physical brain you fundamentally alter who I am and possibly my sense of self. My personality, my thoughts, my experiences, all stored in that mushy matter inside skeletal skull.

WHY? WE ARE MORE THAN THAT! Or so I'd like to think.

I cannot ever comprehend how humans--the same species that can examine its own DNA, prompt questions about its own existence, and build technologies to rival the capabilities of gods--can be so primitive at the same time. This dichotomy of infinite sophistication verses lowly savagery. Of being so fragile in disposition yet being able to traverse to other solar bodies. How can the intellect that scrutinized the parameters of our universe and mathematically defined its laws simply be swayed by bread and water? How can we simply return to dust as if we had never came?

Yes, some may remember you: your friends, family, whoever else. Perhaps you even become famous, written in history textbooks for the coming centuries. But how are you really remembered, except by how others recall you as or by how others depict you? The fundamental essence of who you are, in all of your experiences and thoughts and habits, is lost forever. Gone.
