From a Submarine to Steemit

Cheers Steemit!

New member here, and new to the Crypto-world overall. I first found this site courtesy of a youtube channel Suppoman Udemy (wouldn't feel right not to credit), & I haven't been able to stop reading and learning about all of the new technology and platforms. Steemit has really impressed me, and I hope I can contribute!

Former submariner that spent way too much time without sunlight or internet while underwater. After a while you don't even miss it, you just look forward to pizza and movie night. I can't complain too much though, I did get to travel the world and spike my adrenaline meter a few times.

I am currently pursuing my bachelors in Electrical Engineering in Dallas, but I still find time to travel on occasion. Since I have been back I have:

hiked the Grand Canyon

Been rained on in Ireland:

And witnessed a sunset over the Bay

I hope to continue learning, and to give back whatever 2 cents I can.

Cheers!

Good Luck fellow Steemian,
@Nezbong

Nice to meet you. I'm new around here as well. I would love to read about your submarine adventures. I followed you and look forward to your future posts! Good luck.

Thx, ask me whatever you want. The stories are tough because the craziest moments aren't the ones I remember the most. Those moments are all about hoping you studied or trained enough. The moments I remember most vividly involve the people... Well that and the tiny beds.. Haha

What was the longest you were underwater?

47 long days. We were giddy when we finally got to see the sun and breathe fresh air. Some of the "salitier" guys have been under for much longer than that before. If needed we can stay under til the food runs out, as we produce our own water and oxygen.

Wow, I could not imagine! Are you able to exercise while you are down there?

Its tough, but we have a few exercise bikes and a treadmill (always broken) and we do a lot of pushups, situps etc. Some guys manage to keep themselves in pretty good shape, but some don't.

How many are typically on a sub at a time! I find this so interesting.

Haha, thx. It depends on the class of submarine and what the mission is, but normally 120-140ish for a Virginia Class Submarine. We have carried more, and carried less though depending on what is going on.

Hey there, great intro buddy. Thanks for serving. Were you ever out during crazy seas? How do submarines handle in bad weather?

Yep a few crazy seas, 1 tropical depression when were in a communication window during mission. It was miserable. Picture being in a tin can rolling around in the waves. Everyone was struggling to keep their food down. But most of the time we avoid the surface if possible, as its the most vulnerable place for a Submarine. Underwater however, the storms are normally pretty calm if you go deep enough.
