Two very large security related stories made news today.

The most commonly mentioned one being the Yahoo! breach of user information (estimated at 500 million accounts). In my humble opinion, pretty much anything connected to the Internet is exposed (so it should be properly encrypted if it needs to stay private).

The lessor reported (on local news at least) incident is the DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service attack) experienced by security blogger and reporter Brian Krebs (http://krebsonsecurity.com/2016/09/krebsonsecurity-hit-with-record-ddos/).

His site is still down as of this posting but information is coming out through other news sources and his posts are also viewable in Google's cached pages.

The concern of censorship is real as this DDOS doubled in scale from the previous record - and is attributable to the exponential growth in the devices making of the IoT (Internet of Things).

Given this 'a la cart' censorship capability...

I am very happy to see STEEMIT as a source of distributed and immutable information.
I presume if such a DDOS attack were carried out against steemit.com in future, we would be able to leverage the blockchain info by other means (perhaps by a distributed app?) This would ensure continuous access to information that some entity/individual may not want public (and of course shut all other items accessible through steemit.com in the process).

Looking forward to participating in the evolution of STEEM, including innovations that will ensure uptime even in the face of massive disruption that occurred to krebsonsecurity.com because someone didn't want certain information public.
