Introducing Minnowmentor - A free service to help minnows earn more!

Every bit of reward that goes into this post is going to help minnows. Please read for an intro to the project.

The other night I announced that Minnow Mentor was launching, and had a great response from a number of people who were all up for being mentored. I am pleased that I am getting through taking a good look at those who have already asked for support, and just wanted to give you the latest.

This account @minnowmentor has been set up by @anarcotech, and will be a central place which will host the @minnowmentor service. Please do have a good look at what this service is all about below.

IMPORTANT NOTE

@minnowmentor will start as a project in the week commencing 28th August 2017 and not before. Although I will be commenting on posts before then, it is not until after the 28th August that we will start properly.

@minnowmentor is a bit different from some other projects, mainly because it's not about making money for the people running it. This is a purely altruistic project. It will provide something which is:

Purely for the benefit of the community

Minnowmentor will be a central account for mentoring, so I can keep my own blog for my other projects. @minnowmentor will be a completely transparent project, designed solely for helping minnows develop. Neither myself, nor anyone else will make financial gain from @minnowmentor unless they either put their time in as an active mentor, or help the project by delegating Steem Power.

Free Service open to all minnows

This service will cost minnows absolutely nothing. We are doing this because we genuinely want to help, and because if we create more dolphins (and hopefully whales) it will only benefit the entire community, and improve the quality of posts.

@minnowmentor will be absolutely FREE for new members who have a reputation under 50 AND who have been steeming for under 4 months.

If your reputation is 50+, or you have been here for over 4 months, you are invited to join the programme too, but we ask for a Steem Donation which will be immediately powered up to provide bigger curation rewards. It will be up to the individual to decide how much they wish to donate, and there will be no minimum amount, but we would like people to value the service appropriately.

Earnings to benefit the community

100% of the Curation and Post Earnings from Minnowmentor will be shared with those who get involved for their time. This is NOT about trying to get one individual a load of earnings. It's purely to support the community. We will be asking for witnesses and whales to continue to look at us, and to be transparent about what we are doing.

50% of all earnings will be pumped into Steem Power to assist with the growth of @minnowmentor. The SP minnowmentor earns will purely be used to upvote our minnows posts.
25% of all earnings will be shared amongst the mentors as a thank you for their involvement.
25% of all earnings will be given to those who delegate SP to help the project develop.

Real mentors (not bots) looking at our minnows posts and giving advice.

Mentors will all be vetted, and will all have a reputation of at least 50+ and SP of over 1000. They should also have registered accounts over 3 months old and have been involved in at least one area of promotion/development/marketing/support or something else connected with growing Steemit.

A powerful learning environment

There's a lot to learn when it comes to Steemit. To go from newbie to advanced with some of the cool things you can do on Steemit takes time and effort. Minnowmentor will be publishing a full course of learning material which will support minnows, especially more non-technical ones. This will cover as far as possible every aspect of the Steemit community, including some of the more advanced stuff.

Rewarding promising minnows

We all know minnows are perfectly capable of producing great quality content. @minnowmentor intends to reward minnows who are showing promise, and acting upon the feedback of their mentor to improve even further. We want to be able to help our minnows smile.

Investment opportunity for supporters

This project will be really successful if we have supporters. This means we need great mentors to help curate and provide feedback on our minnows.

We also want to take in a large (and growing amount) of delegated SP which will earn interest over time from the curation and posting rewards that the @minnowmentor account makes.

Mentors will also share in the rewards that the @minnowmentor account earns through posts and curation.

How it will work - basic guide

Every few days (when there are mentors available) @minnowmentor will make a "CASTING THE NET" post. In this post, we will be clear about the number of minnows we can mentor right now. This will be based purely on how many mentors we have available, and the time they can commit.

Minnows will make a request in the comments using the tag mentorme

Once the minnow slots are filled for the next few days, the minnows will be assigned to their mentors.

The mentors will then look at multiple aspects of the minnows feeds, with the intention of providing the very best feedback possible to help the minnows grow.

So, no man is an island, and I will need help with this. As I'm already involved with the promo-uk team, there may well be some natural support from this group of exceptional Steemers.

But ideally what we need now is mentors, and sponsors to kick us off.

AND FINALLY : Every bit of reward that goes into this post is going to help other minnows. Notice that it's set to 100% power-up. The goal is to have a great reward pool of earned and delegated SP that is there to support and reward minnows who are taking active steps to be great bloggers.

This is a nice initiative. Here are some of my suggestions:

The project should involve the willing, inactive, active whales to delegate some of their SP to this project. The percentage of curation reward that whales want should be discretion of whales. If a whale wants 100% gains from his delegated SP, that's OK.
If a minnow wants his/her post to be evaluated, he can send his 1 SBD to the mentor of his liking. The mentor who will have some delegated SP, vote accordingly and provide feedback. For example, if the post is just OK, the mentor will vote just 1SBD. If it is above average, mentor may double or triple the the upvote. If it is revolutionary the mentor can forward the post to a big pool (a whale size account) to upvote to a great value. It will provide both way feedback. The minnow will not send just simple post, but he/she will be serious about it by sending SBD and having chance of greater chance of rewarding.
Some machine learning and AI can be used to automate some of the tasks of mentorship. For example, bots will look for some meritocracy and creativity before forwarding the post to higher ranked mentor or whale voter (pool). The bots will evolve by themselves with machine learning. Here is some example of such bots: Gentle Bot and Things-2.
To maximize the effort, mentors should be compensated well and since success depends on their efforts. If the mission is gets some traction, some help (delegated SP) can be request from the Seemit Inc. Because, there is big lack of curation and there are excellent bloggers who need supports. Some bloggers are not good at marketing at all. Therefore, there should be variety of mentors- marketing, writing, artistic, etc.
5.Finally, best outputs (blogs/posts from minnows) should get maximum exposure through marketing or advertising (e.g. big count of whale or dolphin votes ) so that it show up in Trending. The benefit is that it will show the prowess of minnowmentor in creating great post, dolphins and whales of the future.

Thanks @riseofth. Noted your points, and they will be put to the people who start to get involved. I expect this will evolve as time goes by. I do really want some whales to get involved and delegate some SP, the challenge as always is hooking them, and I've been going to them directly to see if I can get an audience to put this to them. What I've wanted to do is make a system that gets great curators directly involved particularly with newbies and minnows who are struggling, but actually have some great content. And I really hear you about marketing of it, and will be talking to some great marketeers on here to see if they can support me with it. I also don't expect immediate results, and it will take time to be noticed. But it's going to get there I'm sure.

@anarchotech, since you are the minnow support and intro to steemit steembassador (do you think you could put together a blog that acts as a welcome blog for all new users who scan our business cards , flyers (certainly in promo-uk but hopefully to be used in other countries as well) that references your video series on how to use steemit and also reference minnow support? I think this will be highly useful as part of our upcoming uni tour... Maybe you have something already, but i looked at your blog and couldnt find. also, I am not sure what @stephenkendal is planning to use as the QR code to our university tour flyers and business cards, however, I am sure it is something along these lines. Stephen is this also in your line of thinking?

Additionally it should also mention link to the series on how to promote and pitch steemit that stephen and I put together...

Thanks @supremenyc. I'm already getting offers from great steemians. Its going dark for a few days whilst I move house, and I will be without internet until thursday. But hoping to get started next week.
