For The Love (Part 1) - My Introduction To Steemit
Football, football, football, the only constant that has always been in my life, as a child it would be very rare to see me without a ball at my feet (unless I was sleeping with it).
For me football was my escape, my release, growing up in a home with five other siblings and being the second youngest had it's own challenges but I felt most at home with the ball at my feet.
Playing for hours on end on my own, trying to learn every trick I could with the ball and teaching myself new ones was my daily mission, often picturing myself on the highest stage playing the game that I loved so much.
I loved having the ball at my feet, it was what football was all about for me, showing off my new skills and trying to dribble past everyone was my aim, that feeling of taking an opponent with a trick that took me hours the learn was priceless and I would always be smiling when I played.
"David is greedy, he don't pass" was a phrase that I regularly heard from both parents and team-mates as I would try to take everyone on the pitch as game understanding wasn't my strong point at this stage lol.
Being very skillful had it's benefits from a very young age as I started to get a reputation for being a good local football player and whenever I played I would get respect from opposing players, and making friends became very easy for me which was good socially.
While playing for my primary school Harbinger I was approached by the Puma (local grassroots team) manager to come and play for them. At first I found the transition hard as being "the new kid" and quite shy, it took my a while to settle in also bearing in mind that my parents didn't attend any training sessions or games I played. The level was a step up to what I was used to and naturally I needed time to adjust.
To be continued...
