Elves of the Norse mythology
Hello everyone!
Today I am going to shortly write about one of the most popular mystical creatures from Norse mythology these days that I personally adore.
That is elves/ elfs. They came in pairs, the light and dark ones.
Elves are known as immortal demigod-like beings, but they die if their sacred oak tree was cut. These ones are light beings. Light elves are mostly portrayed as a light haired, blue eyed with a close link with nature creatures. Pointy ears were also one of the main characteristics. The luminous creatures are also known as “more beautiful than the sun”. Imagine how pompous that is! Relationships between elves and humans or other rases are blurry.
As for location of the light elves it is said to be Alfheim with the lord god Freyr as their ruler.
Interesting fact, elves cause human illnesses, but also have the power to heal them. It is also possible to interbreed between elves and humans to have half-human, half-elfin children. Those kids possess intuitive and magical powers! Not to mention, humans can become elves after death. The processing is also blurry.
Veneration of elves lasted longer than even that of the gods!
One the other hand, dark elves were not so handsome. Just to mention, dark elves were said to be kind of ugly creatures. They are located in world called Niflheim.
Norse mythology was the first literature that mentioned elves.
To sum up, it's really strange how creatures that is not much known about, so secretive and mysterious, could be so entertaining.
Thank You for Your time, I hope this post was interesting for You!
Have you heard of Paleowolf and their music? It may be right up your alley due to your interest in norse mythology. They are my favorite artists to listen to while I work or study.
I am part Scandinavian too, and I'm extremely interested in Viking, Norse, Germanic, and other ancient tribe history and lost knowledge. I'm looking forward to seeing the content you share about such topics!
I should listen to them ;)
I'm also a big fan of Scandinavian mythology and other mystical places for example like Atlantis, I have been into it from childhood. Thank You!
