THE QUTUB MINAR
The Qutub Minar is located in Delhi. Its construction was commenced by Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1192 and was completed by Iltutmish. It was constructed with red sandstone and marble, and is the tallest minaret in India. Its height is 72.5 meters ( 237.8ft) and it contains 379 stairs to reach the top. The diameter of its base is 14.3 meter. The Qutub Minar is unique for being one of the earliest and most prominent examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. It is surrounded by several other ancient and medieval structure and ruins, collectively known as qutub complex . Some say that the minaret was used to calling people for prayer.
