1 - Contact the interviewee

Before doing anything, you should contact the interviewee, and ask whether they'll be interested to spare some time for you. In order to maximize your chances of getting a yes, you should explain the potential benefits they could get from that interview. If you have a large audience, be certain to point that out.

In the case of an interview with a Steemit user, you could do that easily with Steemit.chat. Since most of the users are registered on that site, there's a good chance that you'll get a reply. You can also leave your comment, and mention the person (using "@" followed by their username), in order to notify them. Give them an estimate of the projected time frame, and ask if they can spare that much time for the interview. If not, ask how much time they can spare.

2 - Prepare the questionnaire in advance

This is the second step. You can't prepare 100 questions to ask if the interviewee has only 5 minutes to spend with you. That's the reason why asking the time-period is important. Once you know the amount of time that your interviewee is willing to spend, then you can prepare your questionnaire accordingly.

3 - Check your recording device

It's extremely frustrating when your device stops working during an interview, so it's a prudent practice to check everything before the interview to ensure that things go smoothly. It's also not a bad idea to have a backup device should your primary equipment​ fail.

Double check all the options, such as the resolution of your recording, and whether the microphone is enabled or not. You should also record a quick test session before the interview to make certain everything is functioning properly.

You may not get an opportunity to rebook the interview, so do whatever you can to make sure it goes off without a hitch!
