Inspirational: How A Roadside Bangle Seller Became A Top IAS Officer Of The Country.
A famous line by Rashtrakavi Dinkar is 'When a human joins a stone, it becomes water.' Somewhere this line has been shown by a boy selling this bangle from a small village in Maharashtra. By the age of 10, this child who sold a bangle with his mother showed amazing work. Today this boy is identified as a top IAS officer of the country but his journey to reach here is full of struggles.
Born in Mahagaon, a small village in Warsi tehsil of Maharashtra's Solapur district, Ramesh Gholap is a well-known face of the Indian Administrative Service today. Ramesh's childhood was spent in deprivations and conflicts. For getting a two pieces of bread, mother and son would sell bangles throughout the day, but the father would have blown away the money earned in liquor. The father owned a small cycle repair shop, barely able to get a single meal. No food to eat, no home to live in and no money to study, what can be more struggle than this?
Ramesh used to stay with his mother at his aunt's Indira residence. This process of struggle continued like this. His father died a month before the matriculation examination. This shock shook Ramesh completely, but in spite of not giving up, he took the matriculation examination and scored 88.50% marks. The mother also took a loan of Rs 18,000 for the purpose of buying a cow under the government loan scheme to continue her son's education.
Ramesh reached Pune with dreams of becoming an IAS with some money from his mother. Here he started working hard. Worked all day, raised money from it, and then studied overnight. To raise money, he used to make announcements of leaders on the walls, promotion of shops, wedding paintings etc. He suffered a failure in the first attempt, but he persevered. In the year 2011, again took the UPSC examination and got 287th position. Not only this, but he also got the first position in the State Service examination.
He had a pledged that he will go to his village only if he had succeeded in achieving his goals.
On 4 May 2012, when he first stepped into the streets where he used to sell bangles, he was strongly welcomed by the villagers. Last year he successfully received his training as SDO Bermo. Recently he has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Jharkhand.
Ramesh recalls his bad times, stating that whenever he would help a destitute today, he would remember his mother's situation when she would fall for her pension at the officers' door. Never forgetting his bad times, Ramesh was always ready to serve the needy. Not only this, but Ramesh has also given tips to youth to succeed in administrative examinations by doing more than 300 seminars till now.
Ramesh's story can become a strong inspiration for the millions of youth who want to serve the country and society by getting admitted to civil services.
