Building relationships: Connect - not correct!

in #inspiration5 years ago

This morning I listened to inspirational teaching by John Maxwell while doing some exercising. In other words, I had an awesome morning with a flying start, which resulted in me being inspired, showered, and finished with my exercise before the rest of the house got out of bed.

It was while listening to the teaching John Maxwell came with this really interesting quote. He was speaking about building relationships with others, and when doing so, were are normally very good at criticizing and discovering the faults in everyone else. But, that is when he said that we need to connect - not correct. It is so true. What does he mean?

when you meet people.jpg

When you meet someone, are you trying to cover your own mistakes by finding what you consider to be bigger mistakes and faults in the others? Is that the way you try to improve your own status (in your own eyes). Or, do you look for value in others? Do you try to see the good sides and the talents of other people when you meet them? Do you try to discover the strengths of the people you are with? Do you see the real value of the people? Or is it all about you?

It is important to connect with people. We all have mistakes, and we all have faults in our character and our behavior. But, that doesn't make any of us bad persons... we are simply people with problems, we all are.

However, as you come into a room and start encouraging those around you, it will actually be like a breath of fresh air... especially in a world when all most people see is their own nose.

When you connect with people, you forget about yourself, and you forget about what you consider to be errors in the other person. Instead, you focus on what is good, you try to understand the person, and you find common ground on which you can stand. As you get to know them, what you considered to be wrong with the person might be explained? Sometimes we laugh at people for making strange movements, but maybe it is caused by something that happened to them in the past? Don't laugh at people, they are valuable and precious, all of them... including me and you!

I hope you have actually read this and that it has given you something! If it has, I would love to hear from you! Thank you for reading and have a really blessed day!
