DBM 014: When The Chips Are Down!

You know, when the chips are down that's when you know who truly has your back. A lot of times many are left to themselves - alone, and it is in that place some either break or grow.

Life is full of seasons, and I wish more people understand that tides turn, and that people don't stay down forever. Most get back up. But when they do get up, they get up with lessons that go with them for life. That's why some successful people are the way they are, good or bad. It depends on the lessons they took out of whatever experience they came through.

So my message here is Reach out! What's the point of being a friend of convenience? There's no love in that. Love is unconditional and so is true friendship. The worth and value of friendship is mostly expressed when the chips are down. I'm not talking about people who come into your life for a bit and then take a walk when the heat gets turned up in your life. No, not the ones who begin to feel overburdened by your problems, and certainly not the ones without problems too - everyone has problems to deal with no doubt. But I'm talking about a friendship that is secure, one that proves itself over and again in even the smallest way - as little as a listening ear, a show of genuine concern, a word of encouragement, a prayer of agreement, a gift of presence, a gift of laughter, a little more sacrifice, respect and regard for words and promises made and sincere apologies when you can't meet up with promises ahead of time, etc. These things seem little but they mean a lot.

Reach out to help someone who cannot help themselves at the time. Help people up as much as you can. They won't stay down forever anyway, so why don't you be part of the reason they stand? Asides from God rewarding you, Life has a way of paying you back a harvest of what you sow eventually. No good deed goes unnoticed, they are seeds that germinate for you ahead. Yet, do it without an expectation!
