Prickly -Inktober
My 25th drawing for Inktober
The Inktober prompt suggestion for the 25th is Prickly. When I was a child we had hedgehogs in our back garden, I think one of them may have lived under our shed. I remember taking out bowls of cat food and water for them, and sitting in the dark garden listening out for their unmistakable snorting noises. The hedgehog I have drawn today is getting ready for hibernation, curling up in the autumn leaves.

I have decided to get out my ink pens and join in with Inktober, you can find more details about Inktober on the website: https://inktober.com/.
Creating the drawing
I started off the process by sketching out the shape of the hedgehog in pencil. I then used my dip pen and drawings inks to add some of the initial ink marks.
I applied strokes of masking fluid to the paper- this was to make the outline of some of the lighter spines. I then applied layers of water and ink over the top with a paintbrush.
Once the masking fluid was removed I added more black ink lines with my dip pen.
Leaf prints
I then added leaf prints to the background. Painting the oak leaves with black ink and then pressing these onto the paper.
Ready for hibernation

I haven't time yet to properly comment, but when I saw the hedgehog I HAD to go in! I adore them and now being back in the UK I'm determined to lure them into whatever urban Garden we manage in whatever house we take.
I love this little guy! I've given up on finishing #inktober with new pieces, but still trying to bring out some previous inks to share again.
This weekend is a bit of a struggle- it was a last minute struggle to finish off today's piece.
The biggest issue I have at making the back garden accessible for hedgehogs is the concrete gravel boards at the bottom of the fences. I have found one place where I could make an approx 15 x 15 cm gap.
Thats so cute and beautiful Ophelia. I loved that you "inkluded" the leaves in the artwork, a little autumn touch:) Inktober is so interesting and fun event, it helps you creativity and focus, i hope next year, when my digital way of making artwork is better, i will take part too:)
Haha good ink pun! The leaves seemed a good way to make a subtle background without drawing attention away from the hedgehog.
Very nice! I was trying to catch up today and then just lost it. I don't know. Last year, I did well. This year not so much. Last year I didn't do anyting hardly for NaNoWriMo.. so maybe Novemeber is my creative month? Either way, I love watching your creations on here. This one is really good. I had a hard time with it for sure!
Thank you @rumdancer, it has been tricky to keep up with creating and posting a drawing everyday. It has been fun though coming up with different drawings around the prompts!!
Awesome, you should make an tutorial on how to have fun working creative! I love with what different things you came up every time, very refreshing to see this 😀
I suspect a lot of it depends on the quantity of coffee I have had that morning!

I love the hedgehogs, my granddaughter Abigail would go crazy if she saw one
