My 22nd drawing for Inktober

The Inktober prompt suggestion for the 22nd is Expensive. I considered different expensive commodities, and thought about costs beyond monetary value. Black gold, oil or petroleum, is extracted from deep within the Earth. Liquids produced from fossil fuels run our cars and heat our homes, but what is the true cost to the Earth? Can we continue to burn these fuels and at what expense?

Creating the drawing

I used black drawing inks to create my drawing, applying it with my dip pen and a brush.

A glossier Liquitex ink was dripped down the page to represent the oil being extracted from the Earth.

Salt was applied just above the face, then water and ink was added to the paper.
