Citizens For Free Speech Founded To Fight Censorship

Citizens For Free Speech (CFFS) announced the beginning of operations to build a national movement to defend Free Speech and rights established under the First Amendment. These rights include freedom of the press, the unhindered expression of religion, the right to peaceably assemble and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

"Censorship in America is running rampant over citizens' rights defined under the First Amendment," said Executive Director Patrick Wood, "big tech companies like Google, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter are actively suppressing all other viewpoints except their own narrow interpretation of what society ought to be."

Wood anticipates a series of projects in 2018, beginning with the creation and launching of a new social network platform for activists to connect with each other, their groups and events within their local community. "Transparency, networking and access are important keys to elevating First Amendment rights", said Wood.

The anticipated name for the social network is LocalActivist.org, which will also offer basic training for activists who desire it.

CFFS also intends to build a coalition of radio and media organizations to present a common voice in addressing censorship to local, state and national government officials.

Citizens For Free Speech is a tax-exempt non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. For more information, contact Patrick Wood at [email protected], or go to http://CitizensForFreeSpeech.org

why start another network?
Steem is just sitting here.

I kind of agree with that. Other than there are those here that sometimes DO vote free speech they don't like into oblivion. If not for that I'd agree with you completely.

voting into oblivion may change with the upcoming changes to the Steem BlockChain.
communities, oracles, and SMT's

If it does then that will fix the biggest problem I see with the platform. We shall see. Afterall they've been talking about Communities for almost two years, and SMTs for a year or so.

dunno about that.
I've been on the platform since Aug of 16
my recollection is different.

Steem is a great content platform. LocalActivist.org intends to be activism-specific, allowing people to see what is going on around them in their own local communities. It is not a place for original content (Steem does that) but for networking with a purpose.

Well it sounds encouraging. We will have to see. Thanks.

I was with him until he got here:

"Censorship in America is running rampant over citizens' rights defined under the First Amendment," said Executive Director Patrick Wood, "big tech companies like Google, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter are actively suppressing all other viewpoints except their own narrow interpretation of what society ought to be."

The first amendment protects against government censorship and sanctions against free speech, not against corporate censorship or sanction. That said I like that their solution is to create their own non-censored platform, that's the right solution to combat corporate censorship.

Your point is well taken, but the lines of demarcation between government and Big Tech are blurred. Both sides are deep inside each other's pocket. In one sense, this blending resembles a Public-Private Partnership.

What I would say to argue this is that such companies have grown to the size where they are now essentially public accommodations and should then be regulated as such and prevented from discriminating against people based on political affiliation or speech. Google is essentially Woolworth's lunch counter. But remember that they actually voluntarily desegregated their lunch counter prior to being forced to by legislation due to public pressure and publicity.

What about the IRS? Has that part of the swamp cleaned out yet?
Have to agree with others we speak out pretty truthfully right here. 🐓🐓
