They should not only not be required to police, censor and spy on their users, they should be actively forbidden to do so by law.

You seem to misunderstand the nature of the FAANGs, as they are far more incestuously infatuated with government than you elucidate. They aren't goaded or pressured by government to censor, shadowban, or blast propaganda.
They were created by government in order to bypass constitutional limitations, freely laundering dark capital into advertising revenues and capturing the surveillance. They are covert government operations. This is also but an incomplete characterization, as government is become simply a wing of organized crime. Have a look at Mueller's involvement in Uranium One, personally flying samples of refined product to Russia.
These are just vectors for fraud. They're not governments or corporations. They're fiefdoms.
You well characterize these companies as monopolies, and antitrust actions should result. Better yet, we should make them obsolete altogether by implementing mesh networks, and decentralize the internet.
We don't need anyone's capital or permission to do that.
