US President Donald Trump will receive his Chilean counterpart Sebastian Piñera on September 28 for a meeting in which they will discuss "the efforts to restore democracy in Venezuela," the White House said today.
"President Trump and President Piñera will work on the strong alliance between the two nations in the search for a more prosperous, secure and democratic Western Hemisphere," the White House said in a statement.
He also added that both leaders will discuss the "shared commitment to policies for growth, the fight against corruption and illicit networks, strategic alliances in energy and cybersecurity, and efforts to restore democracy in Venezuela."
Piñera's visit to Washington will come after his participation in the United Nations General Assembly, which will take place next week in New York.
Piñera, who assumed the presidency of Chile last March, had previously held the position between 2010 and 2014.
The meeting between the two will take place before Trump's first trip to Latin America, scheduled to attend the G20 summit that will take place in Argentina, and after which the president will also visit Colombia.
The US president canceled at the last moment his participation in April of this year at the Summit of the Americas, which took place in Peru.
Since arriving at the White House, Trump has received in Washington several Latin American presidents, among them that of Argentina, Mauricio Macri; Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, Guatemala, Jimmy Morales and now ex-president of Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

The reality is that the United States Government has no intention of bringing peace to the country, on the contrary it wants a war so that they can control the oil that is what has always mattered to them, as I know Venezuela very well. My country's situation, but that does not mean I want it to be invaded by a government that is only looking for a war.
President Trump has commented on many occasions, that the government of Nicolás Maduro has violated many human rights inside Venezuela, which has bankrupted a country that has a lot of economic potential, but that needs the strong hand of new leaders who take the country another way.
One of the main proposals of intervention Venezuela, is the immediate delivery of the government to the opposition of Venezuela, this has generated an internal discussion where both powers have been in a war of decisions that for 5 months have not reached an agreement that benefit the Venezuelans.
Unfortunately in my country politics is shit all those who want the position of president, governor or mayor, just looking for the power to fill their pockets with a lot of money, they do not care about the people, only their own interests.
For this reason we still have a corrupt president because the people are afraid that a person worse than Nicolás Maduro will come to power, since life has taught the Venezuelan that no one is the corrupt one to take the presidency of power, since unfortunately The country is full of corrupt people.
