Nicaraguans flee to Costa Rica from Excessive Violence

in #informationwar6 years ago

A few days ago I had a conversation with a good friend in the Steemit community, he lives in Nicaragua.
Unfortunately, this country is going through a difficult situation where more than 400 deaths have already been recorded.
It is sad to know that this type of situation continues to occur in Latin American countries.

I took the liberty to investigate more about the subject, and here I have my research, the source of my research comes from the different newspapers in the world.

The crisis in Nicaragua has left at least 448 dead, mostly civilian opponents, and more than 2,800 injured in less than four months, according to independent human rights organizations.

Hundreds of Nicaraguans are migrating to Costa Rica due to the political crisis that is shaking the neighboring nation along a Costa Rican border route, a local newspaper reported on Monday.

According to a note in the newspaper La Nación, the road, known as the "trocha", is being used by citizens of that country to "escape" into Costa Rican territory. Immigrants cross the border without major setbacks, due to weak immigration controls on both sides of the zone, DPA reported.

Nicaragua has suffered from a political upheaval since April 18, which was first incubated in demonstrations led by students against a reform of the social security system, protests that later spread to almost the entire country to demand the resignation of President Daniel Ortega.

The crisis in Nicaragua has left at least 448 dead, mostly civilian opponents, and more than 2,800 injured in less than four months, according to independent human rights organizations.

According to stories from neighbors of the Chiles community, located about 250 kilometers north of the capital, and about 50 from the border with Nicaragua, at least 100 immigrants per day would be arriving in the area. Recently, Chancellor Epsy Campbell revealed that according to data from the Directorate of Migration, at least 3,000 Nicaraguans are currently arriving in Costa Rica per week.

The Government has received more than 11,000 refugee claims since the political crisis in Nicaragua. However, the Foreign Ministry said at the time that many of these people were already residing in the country.

The Government adapted two shelters, one in the border community of La Cruz, and another in the Golfito area, some 300 kilometers south of San José, to accommodate citizens fleeing from the neighboring nation.

Costa Rica has been for many years a host country for immigrants of various nationalities. At the end of the decade of the 70s, when the civil war broke out that evicted the dictator Anastasio Somoza from power, and then due to the conflict between Sandinistas and "contras", thousands of Nicaraguans fled to Costa Rican territory.

Apart from the armed conflicts in the neighboring nation, hundreds of Nicaraguans arrive in Costa Rica in search of jobs. At least 600,000 Nicaraguans reside in the country.

The border route, one of the current points of immigration, was the center of a border dispute between the two countries, which was settled in February at the International Court of Justice, in the context of differences by the delimitation of land and marine boundaries .

Hundreds of Nicaraguans are arriving in Costa Rica, some with nothing to eat. A group of Nicaraguans living in Costa Rica together with residents of the community of Heredia have come together to provide them with food and medical care.

Escape route for Nicaraguans fleeing violence

Under death threats and with the application of all kinds of reprisals to the point that forced them to live in hiding in their own country. My compatriots determined not to fall into their clutches have no choice but to flee to the mountain, where they live in anonymity, losing all contact with the family, "he says.

That road, which remained as an incomplete road parallel to the San Juan River, has become an escape route in recent weeks.

"The Political Constitution states that the Government must ensure the physical integrity of its governed, but Ortega does the opposite, represses, persecutes and ends up murdering them with the story that they are criminals, terrorists" complains Osejo with indignation.

With him travels a friend who did not want to say his name or where he comes from. The same thing happens to other Nicaraguans who prefer to avoid reprisals against relatives who have not yet crossed the border.

Those who do not share the ideology of the president of Nicaragua. They are ruthlessly persecuted for what is supported by paramilitaries and police, "said the woman in reference to Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, protagonist of the political crisis that has already exceeded 300 deaths since it began on April 18.

That was the day of the first protest against a reform of the pension system, which led to claims to demand the departure of Ortega, who already warned that he will remain in the Presidency until the end of his term in January 2022.

Rosibel Rojas is one of many who chose to "hide", as she says, in her neighboring country (Costa Rica) to get out alive from the wave of violence.

The bulk of the migrants enter without documents through the small hamlet of La Trocha de Los Chiles, where they resemble ants walking on their way.

Men like Juan Robleto have relatives in Cartago, while Emerita Espinoza and her family do not know anyone in the north or the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM). On Friday, when they entered, they did not know which way to go.

The locals estimate around 100 who arrive daily, although there have been days when the number is higher.

It is sad to know that this type of situation continues to happen in a developing country.

Where their rulers have no vision of development, but rather a mediocre mentality where their only interest is to steal their people, pursue those who do not think like them.

This is what happens in Venezuela, where millions of people are fleeing to other countries, in search of a better life. It is enough that this continues to happen and that the people raise their voices and shout FREEDOM.

Ortega. Socialism. Bad outcome for Nicaragua.

The socialism It is the misfortune of a whole nation.

Thank you for helping get the news out. For the first few months, there was very little making it out. It is a bad situation for foreigners caught here too. Some married with Nica wives and children. They make it very difficult for these families. It is not safe to talk openly anymore and phones and internet is being monitored.

Caught without being able to say anything before a government that attacks the most innocent.

It is regrettable that the strongest countries do nothing to help these countries that are oppressed by a tyrant.
