Deodorant causes cancer! Um...
This last week the wife asked me to get her some deodorant and as a LOVING, AMAZING and GREAT husband I am (I wish), I went and bought her some.
Thing is, I made the same mistake many husbands and boyfriends make, I assumed something. I assumed to know what she wanted in the deo department, and bought her some antiperspirant and gave it to her proudly!
Before i go further, 2 things I need to point out here:
- I never said perfect husband
- My mother always taught me, ASSUME means this, that you make an ASS out of U and ME!
I had not noticed that the deo she usually bought was just normal deo and not antiperspirant because she does not trust the ingredients in the deo, that have been said to cause health issues, even the big ------ CANCER.
So being who I am, I thought it important to go check this out (not to prove I was right, but to make sure we have knowledge :) ---) and the results were interesting.
The National Cancer Institute was very clear on this, stating that there is NO truth to this rumour.
Some used to think there was a link to breast cancer and DEO because of the proximity.
"Because underarm antiperspirants or deodorants are applied near the breast and contain potentially harmful ingredients, several scientists and others have suggested a possible connection between their use and breast cancer (1, 2). However, no scientific evidence links the use of these products to the development of breast cancer."

What was in the antiperspirants that made us worry so?
In all antiperspirants it was the Aluminium-based compounds in the ingredients that helped with or stopped the perspiring when used.
This caused a temporary plug or block to the sweat duct, essentially stopping the sweat from excreting.
I suggest going into the article to check the whole report on this concern people had and see that it essentially was an unfounded concern or worry.
I hope that puts at ease the stress that some husb....I mean people have regarding this topic specifically :).
Other Cancer causing myths:
- Sugar causes cancer: I believed this one until I read the article on cancer.gov (and yes I know that not everything put out is 100% proven, but until better knowledge is found, I trust these guys). So Sugar does not in fact cause cancer directly. Obesity has been shown to cause a few forms of cancer however, so this is probably where the link comes in. No link to sugar was found other than this, even though the cancer cells consume more sugar than other cells, the study shows it did nothing to increase the cells, or stopping sugar to slow down the growth. I still think to stay away from refined sugar...its BAD! And it makes you FAT, which leads to cancer
Credit - Artificial sweeteners: no again! Not healthy for a person, but at least not somethign that brings in the big C
- Cancer is contagious: Only through organ or tissue transplant. No other way
- Cell phones: Cellphones emit low frequency energy tat does not damage genes, and cancer is caused by genetic mutations.
Credit - Hereditary: Only around 5% of cancers are hereditary cancers. These are called “familial” or “hereditary” cancers. The rest of all cancers are genetic mutations that happen during a persons lifetime and exposures to environmental factors such as smoking, aging etc
- Power lines: Similar to your cell phones, the energy is low and not enough to cause damage to the body (unless you touch the line of course)
- Xrays: So radiation does affect the body....this is proven, but Xrays are so low in energy that it in fact isn't dangerous. However not finding the problem in your body may be fatal if not found through SINGLE xrays....you can make the choice I suppose. multiple and repeated Xrays...hmmmm, another matter perhaps?
I include Mammograms and breast compression in this one.

Please take note that these are things that were found through reading other inputs, and not my own. It is interesting to me, and Im grateful for people that do the research.
Cancer is such a scary and horrible thing, and frankly, if we dont keep ourselves healthy, we pay the price!
Often this is cancer....
I hope I was not insensitive to other people or their suffering, as this was never the intent of this post.
All the best to you all!
So many different kinds of cancer, not an easy one to call except healthy eating, lifestyle, more knowledge as to how to protect oneself, nothing is a given.
Lineage history my Grandad had throat cancer (Mum's dad), Mom had Leukemia, Brother had Klatskin Tumour, none related, each presenting different.
Cancer comes in so many different forms, difficult to know what triggers them, rather safe than sorry if possible.
Great to hear @rynow is now in remission, an interesting article @towjam making life altering decisions.
Your post has been selected to be entered into @teamsouthafrica's Daily Nominated Post section in Teamsouthafrica's Discord group. Congratulations!
hi there, thank you for the input.
Yes, I agree, you have to be careful with what you do in your life because to be frank, there is a lot of misdirection and flat out lying all around us as consumers and people just trying to make a decent life for ourselves.
Just relax a little and you know they will take advantage of you at your expense....even if it means years of suffering and pain.
So look after yourself, and those you love!
Hi @towjam
Just as there are so many myths about things giving you cancer, there are about things curing it.
(I was diagnosed with lymphoma in November, and after 6 chemo sessions, just received the good news on Monday, that the Cancer is in remission) You will not believe how many people spoke to me about various cures, but according to my doctor, non of them really works, although a good healthy diet does help to keep you strong during treatment.
Ah well done!! Thats a huge congrats.
I feel you completely, since in a short period of time my wife got cancer and then her mom lost a breast and last year got lung cancer.
We changed lifestyles completely and moved to a smallholding and try to live off the land.
I also make cannabis oil and gave it to mom....they are both clean at the moment and we hope to keep it that way now.
The change of lifestyle should help with that
Howdy sir towjam! thanks for another great article sir! I thought that the aluminum in deodorant was freaking deadly. lol. I won't be so concerned about that one now.
Me too, trust me!!
And my wife was worse than me on it too, so this was quite an interesting find actually
howdy today sir towjam! Yes it was very interesting and I love it when the information inpacts our daily lives. Well done!
