Are "influencers" the new generation of celebrities?

As we see social media sites at the forefront of all things, it's impossible not to notice that people with large followings are starting to have a real impact on culture, policy, and even economics.

It's attainable celebrity, at the fingertips of everyone with a modern phone and an internet connection. People are literally dying for views, likes, follows, and up-clicks. Whether in search of fame for the sake being famous, sponsorship deals, or advertising dollars, it's clear that the age of the online influencer is only just beginning.

Do you think that as more "everyday" people gain recognition we will see a dramatic shift in the way the entertainment industry operates? Or the government, for that matter? Is the rise of cryptocurrency a direct result or a symptom of this "internet celebrity" age?

I want to hear your thoughts on this!
