I guess this tradition has a bit similar with Gladiator tournament in Rome long time ago. If I'm not mistaken, the difference was only about using the sword itself, the sharp and the dull one. Rome was real game while Pasola is only for celebration. Anyway, Both these deadly game are riding a horse.
