An Apple spokesperson refused to comment on Cook's comments or say when it will be available to consumers.

Apple confirmed on December 20 that the software in the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone SE models could slow down the phone's performance to deal with the threat from aging batteries. Within days, Apple faced litigation on slowing down the phone.

This issue hit a nerve on social media, where many people raised the voice of a theory that Apple deliberately slowed the old phones so that customers can be encouraged to buy new people.
