Munir Said Thalib Is Still Alive!
According to Aristotle is one system that deals with events that occur in the form of a chronology. History is a story of the past that has a record, records or concrete evidence, my interest in the deepest and most unstoppable history, from the history of the country itself to world history. However, history is always beautiful, is there a dark history? I replied, yes, there is a dark history in Indonesia.
His last position was as Executive Director of the Imparsial Indonesian Human Rights Monitoring Institute and also a Human Rights Activist, Munir Said Thalib, an Arab-Indonesian man, a humble man who is also a true human rights defender, born in Malang, East Java, Indonesia at 8 December 1965, Munir was originally an extreme Muslim activist, then turned into a Munir who upheld tolerance, respected human values, was anti-violent and fought tirelessly.
Munir is a hero for people whose rights are oppressed. In life, he has a commitment to always defend anyone who is tormented, of course, he proves it by deed. he had received a prize of hundreds of millions of rupiah as a recipient of "The Right Livelihood Award" but he did not enjoy it himself, but divided the two with Kontras (Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence), and some were handed over to his beloved mother. Munir also served as the Council of Kontras, then his name soared as a fighter for missing people who were kidnapped at that time.
He spent his childhood in Batu, East Java. In the city, in the former private home of Munir, a small museum called Omah Munir was established in 2013. Now, the Museum is a record of the history of human rights in Indonesia.
Graduated from the Brawijaya University Faculty of Law, known as an agile activist during his time as a student, he was the Chairman of the UB Faculty of Law Student Senate in 1998, Region IV Coordinator of the Indonesian Law Students Association in 1989, member of the Student Study Forum for the Development of Brawijaya University Thinking. in 1988, Secretary of the UB Law School Student Representative Council in 1988, Secretary of the Malang branch of Al-Irsyad in 1988, and became a member of the Islamic Student Association (HMI).
On September 6, 2004, Munir headed to Amsterdam to continue his master's program (S2) at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, then an unpleasant incident occurred to him, 3 hours before Amsterdam, Munir took his last breath on the plane for suspected food poisoning he ate on the plane.
His body was buried in Batu city, Jawa Timur, Indonesia. He left a wife named Suciwati and two children, namely Sultan Alif Allende and Diva. Since 2005, the date of Munir's death on September 7 by human rights activists was proclaimed as the Day of Indonesian Human Rights Defenders.
Then, on December 20, 2005, Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto, a pilot of the plane who was boarded by Munir in Amsterdam, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the murder of Munir. The judge stated that Pollycarpus arsenic was in Munir's food. In addition, the former President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono also formed an independent investigation team, but the results of the investigation by the team were never published to the public.
Now, 14 years have passed but humanitarian voices and struggles continue to resonate, but Munir's TPF (Fact Finding Team) document seems to have no news. and the results of Munir's TPF have not been announced by the government. Meanwhile, Pollycarpus convicted of Munir's case has been released on August 29, 2018, and until now the main mastermind of the case has not been revealed.
We are all with Munir, long life struggle!
Munir is a person who makes it easier for the current generation to translate universal human rights concepts.
Alm Munir. Menolak lupa.
