#indiegamedev Day 69: Building a P2E
Introduction
Not sure how to start this so I will state this, I'm a retiree that yolo'd on BTC and I want to die as an indie game dev. $CRAP, that sounded pretty morbid, but that's my life goal that I'm finally getting to retackle late in life. The good is there are so many tools available at my disposal that did not exist or was simple way to overpriced over two (2) decades ago. Was going to write 20+ years but $CRAP, that looks just reads so ancient. The bad is, the barrier to entry has been lowered so far that people with far better talent in their left toe are oversaturating the market. Us subpar mediocre creators are left not only to sit in the dark, but we have to spend our time collecting dust too.
The Journey
Had some decent runs for live action games that took place online and also hosted in-person games, but then I had some contractual duties to fulfill from my uncle, Sam. Leaving the tech world for any extended period time is death to your career. Technology changes so rapidly, fortunately for me I've been using ai agents to help get me re-acclimated to the field.
Fail Fast
In the past 3 years, I've created over 50 websites (82 to be exact, shhh) each building upon the idea and the failures of the previous. Sometimes failing miserably, sometimes failing expensively, and sometimes failing both miserably expensive. Then a glimmer of light shown through, but I got some suck arse friends; but then again I use the term friend loosely - so they are who they are. Then another glimmer shown and it too was met with fierce opposition in the form of red tape - regulation. I felt doomed and hopeless and then I received a message from a forum user, almost a month into my disappearance from their platform.
I used to be a brave adventurer, then I took an arrow to the knee.
Sometimes it can be discouraging and a small setback can cripple an entire project.
G.A.S
Enter Google App Script, why, because people said rpg sim games are glorified spreadsheets. In an attempt to find out how true this was I grabbed a few ai agents and went to work. It took 60 minutes to get the initial code and then another 60 days to work out all the bugs, well most. It's day 69 and I decided to make another indie game dev blog on a new platform and share my ramblings. Since this is a passion project I don't have to worry to much about profitability, just sustainability. I'll post back in a few days, working on a new update for the game and for some reason every time I add something, I break something.
Wish me luck!
