India Ministry of External Affairs indicates "NO WAR" -> Doklam Disengagement Agreement

in #india7 years ago (edited)

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, India, there may be an end to the Doklam face-off at the Sikkim border.

As per the agreement both the countries will be slowly withdrawing their troops from the disputed location, however, it is still not clear whether Chinese PLA is actually honoring the disengagement agreement.

Both India and China, the 2 strong nuclear powers of the world, have mutually agreed to disengage from the disputed Doklam site where the troops of both the countries were standing face to face since 16 June 2017.

This is a big move ahead of scheduled visit of Indian prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi for the BRICS summit scheduled for next week at Xiamen. It is also being speculated that Russian president Mr. Vladmir Putin may play an important role for a conducive dialogue between India & China to solve the border dispute.

Modi and Putin may also hold a bilateral meeting at the sideline of BRICS summit for strengthening the relationships.

My View

  • It is a welcome move and a mature decision from both the nuclear armed countries.
  • Respecting each other and reciprocating the gestures is the need of the hour.
  • Public interest and economic growth are the major objectives for India and China.
  • War is no solution for any problem, however, understanding and dialogue is more important tool for regional peace.

In short, it is a very good move, that should strengthen the understanding between the nuclear armed neighbors.
