Havildar Hangpan Dada ,AC was a soldier in the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army from the state of Arunachal Pradesh and was born in Borduria, Tirap district. He was posthmously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime millitary award in August 2016.
Lovingly called Havildar Dada in the unit ,he single handedly killed three terrorists in the inhospitable Shamshabari Range in Kupwara district of Kashmir.On spotting four terrorists ,he first blocked their escape route and then courageously without a care for his saftey engaged with the enemy. He moved to a flank and came in close contact with the terrorists. He killed two of them at close quarters but was injured in the process. And after killing the third terrorist he died while fighting with the fourth terrorist.
