The centre of eponymous Ajmer District, Ajmer is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Surrounded by Aravalli Hills it is a must visit city. It is also a pilgrimage centre for the shrine of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. Ajmer has been selected as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY – Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India.

Dargah Sharif
Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Ajmer Dargah, Ajmer Sharif or Dargah Sharif a Sufi shrine of Sufi Saint, Moinuddin Chisti located at Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. The shrine has the grave of the revered saint, Moinuddin Chisti. The complex houses numerous monuments; important attractions within the Dargah include two imposing gates called Buland Darwaza, the mausoleum where Moinuddin Chishti’s tomb is placed. There is also a mosque and a huge cauldron where believers donate money, which is then used to feed the poor and needy.

Ana Sagar Lake
Built by Anaji Tomar, the grandfather of Prithvi Raj Chauhan Ana Sagar is an artificial lake. The lake is spread over an area of 13 km and there is also a circuit house near the lake. There is an island in the center of the lake which is accessible by boat. Boats could be hired from the east side of the Dault Bagh. It is one of the most beautiful lakes in India.

Taragarh Fort
Known as the ‘Fort of Ajmer’ it is located at the top of Nagpahari Hills. It was constructed at a time when the Aravalli mountain ranges were above the snowlines. It has the reputation of being one of the oldest hill forts of the world. It is often called as the ‘Star Fort’, dating back from the 12th century.

Pushkar
Located 14 km northwest of Ajmer this town has so much to offer. Pushkar has many temples. Most of the temples are not very old because many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in the area. Subsequently, the destroyed temples were rebuilt. The most famous among all is the Brahma Temple built during the 14th century CE. The Pushkar Lake has 52 ghats where pilgrims descend to the lake to bathe in the sacred waters. It also has various traditional shops for shopping along with thrilling camel and horse rides.

Ropangarh Fort
A 17th-century monument, The Roopangarh Fort was constructed by Maharaja Roop SinghMaharaja Roop Singh. It is now running as a hotel. The royal ambience and elegance have been skillfully refurbished and it can be experienced from its aesthetically furnished interiors. The Roopangarh Fort beguiles the viewer with its battlements, olden passageways, armories granaries, jails, and foundries.

Nasiyan Ji Mandir
If you have an eye for detail, you must visit the Nasiyan Ji Mandir, which has brilliantly designed gold-plated figures of peacocks and elephants from Jain mythology to various continents of the world. This extravagantly built temple is the perfect place to interpret the primeval world from the Jains’ perspective. Aesthetically designed, Nasiyan Ji Mandir is made of two storey’s and is divided into two parts, one of which is a prayer area and the other a museum.

Magazine Museum
This is the city museum of Ajmer; a historic palace which was once the royal home of Prince Salim. It showcases a variety of ancient sculptures that take you through the history of the Mughals and Rajputs who once reigned here. One can also see the different types of armor used during the Mughal rule at the Magazine Museum.
