Mother vs Father scolding

in #india13 days ago (edited)

When a son is scolded by his mother, it's not the cutting edge of anger that he receives, but a heavy, prolonged sadness in her voice. Although in anger, her disappointment weighs on his heart like a burden, and he wishes he could turn back time to erase the thing that pained her. It's not the severity of words, but the unspoken sorrow in them, that unnerves him. The guilt of watching her in distress weighs heavy on him, and he cannot help but find himself attracted to her, reflexively seeking comfort in her embrace. Conversely, when his father chastises him, the wrath is unmistakable. It's a tempest of anger, straightforward and unforgiving. His father's loud voice and angry words can make the son feel guilty and small, but it's the anger in his father's eyes that hurts the most. The anger is strong, but doesn't last like sadness does.
When a mother yells with anger, her daughter can feel fear, frustration, and emotional distance, as the harshness of the tone can make her feel overwhelmed or not understood. This type of scolding tends to give rise to internalized guilt or defensiveness, since the daughter feels judged instead of corrected. When a father scolds sorrowfully, however, his daughter is more likely to experience a profound sense of guilt or empathy since she is worried about his emotional well-being. The sorrow in his tone can convince her to evaluate her behavior and change for his sake and with a need to comfort him, as opposed to fear of repercussions. Both techniques can leave long-term effects, but the reaction to anger is likely to estrange the daughter, whereas the reaction of sadness can create closeness and instill her with a desire to apologize.
