Mangal Pandey's 121st Birthday
Mangal Pandey, the great Indian soldier who is believed to start the first war of independence(1857) by his attack on March 29, 1857 was born 121 years from today on July 19, 1827. It is a great honour for India that such great soldiers went against the British government to get the freedom we are enjoying today. He was born in a Brahmin family with strong Hindu beliefs. His religious beliefs clashed with his career as a sepoy in the 34th Bengal Native infantry. It was believed that the lubricant used in the greased cartridge that the soldiers had to bit off was made with cow and pig fat. This created tension and started the attack which was lead by Mangal Pandey.

We should relive his memories today as a respect for his contribution to our freedom.
