It is the practice of funding Blockchain-based startups by selling digital tokens to the intended audience or anyone who believes in the its cause. And the collected money from the ICO is then used to start and fund the company’s development.
The first ICO actually took place in 2013. When mastercoin did a crowdsale of its token on the Bitcointalk.org forum.
Ethereum for the WIN.
Currently, Ethereum has the most successful ICO campagin with over $18 mln raised between July & August 2014. However, the DAO did secured $150 mln, but its been hacked. Yup, bummer.
What are some issues with ICO campaigns?
Today some ICO campagins are lack of one or several of key points below. Such as an escrow wallet for the contributions, disclosure of the team behind the project, and clearly defined and achievable goals.
Where can I find ICO campaigns?
Wave Platofrm and ICONOMI are like Kickstarter for ICO campaigns. They provide platofrms where users can easily search and study for those campaings and invest in them.
