Photochain - the Revolutionary Stock Photography Marketplace
Hello, guys! Today I’m going to speak about stock photography and digital works in general. Also, I’d like to represent an Ethereum-powered stock photography platform called Photochain to my subscribers.
The digital content market has grown immensely over the past few years. However, this market is very centralized. It is hard to believe, but most of the industry worth approximately $ 4 Billion is controlled by several companies.
Stock photography is the most popular type of digital content. It is usually hard for a creator to reach his or her potential customers directly, this is why they have to deal with digital agencies or platforms. Photographers and artists usually have low brand recognition, so it is hard for a beginner artist to reach customers directly. This is why he hands over all the rights to digital agencies and lose most of the control and revenue.
The production of high-quality photo content is rather expensive. The good thing is that there are no limitations as to the number of copies a creator can sell. In order to earn more, every creator is trying to be promoted to the wide audience. The bad thing is that a creator cannot set the prices for his photos or other pieces of content. A digital platform does it instead of the owner.
Photochain team has discovered all the major problems stock photography is facing today. I’m following Photochain on Medium and I see that the team works really hard. Their plan is to take all the best features of the blockchain. This project is not a means of making money for the team, but it is a beloved child.
Blockchain technology and the idea of decentralization in every sphere of human activity has turned the world upside down over the last couple of years. Blockchain-powered D’Apps offer people lots of services we are used to at much lower prices. Peer-to-peer business model makes it possible to eliminate all the intermediaries, so the prices for the service goes down. Stock photography is not the exception, so let’s take a closer look at Photochain platform.
I took a tour over the beta, and these are my thoughts about it:
It is damn fast. It took the site less than a second to display the search result by the word “cat”. Although it is beta, there are 600 images uploaded to the platform now (30 main categories with about 20 sample images each). Every image is protected by the exclusive watermark.
The interface is user-friendly. Photochain looks a bit like Google images, it is laconic and clear. The colors are pleasant and not distracting from the main content. I hate bright backgrounds or lots of animation in web-design.
If you click on an image you’ll be redirected to the details page. It looks like an item page at any internet-shop. On this page, there are several custom fields like “image type”, “size” and “stock-id”. The id is displayed in the page’s URL as well. Here you can also click on the author's name and go to his portfolio page for more stunning pictures.
There are some features I like: add to favorites, search by tag, “similar photos” module on the details page.
To be honest, I enjoyed surfing through Photochain. I think this platform will be of great use for people who work with content because digital works and photos help to sell the content. And the authors collaborating with Photochain will have the greatest experience as well.
The project has been going through the funding stage of its development now. I’m sure that such a platform is worth of interest.
