Crowdholding is in a hot phase right now and I would like to share some news with you.

What is an ICO?

Similar to an IPO, ICOs are to raise money. But other to the IPO, the newly issued “Coins“ or “Tokens“ of an ICO do not directly represent equity like usual shares of a company. That's why an ICO is more of a Crowdfunding method than a stock market launch. However, saying you're simply buying a currency during an ICO does not fulfil it in my opinion. It is much more and we haven't even discovered its full potential. The most successful ICO that started the wave of this new concept was Ethereum who managed to raise over 18 million dollars in 42 days.

What is a Pre-ICO?

Basically, it's just an additional round of the ICO. Tokens are offered at discounted price to make it more attractive and profitable for early adopters to invest. The money raised in the pre-round is usually used for marketing of the actual ICO.

If you could travel back in time, would you invest in the ICO of Bitcoin?? (Even if there hasn't been one) The answer must be yes. Such early investments are likely to multiply tremendously. Many tokens reach a growth of a four to five digit number in percent.

Never forget, there is a big difference between coins, which are basically just holding values, and tokens, which are created or issued within the ecosystem of a company and follow a certain functionality. I personally don't believe that there can be many big players very similar to BitCoin. One rule of the new economy is the winner takes it all. Imagine the situation of the fiat money projected on the blockchain (decentralisation), it would mean that specific marketplaces only accept specific currencies, which is not really in the sense of the blockchain. However, when functionality of tokens gets deepened over the time, I believe token-specific industries could come up. This is all going to be explored in the near future. Now back to topic.

If these 4 items are in place, an ICO could be worth investing:

• You have read the white paper in detail and it makes sense as a business
• There is a demonstrated demand for the product
• The business needs a cryptocurrency/token system to perform
• You can commit funds without any suffering in your life

Scams in the ICO sphere

Because ICO’s are booming and more and more startups are taking this route, there are sadly more scam artists out there. Some early stage startups in that industry were considered as scam even when they're legit, only because some information was not yet published for example or the landing page was not up.

At the end my questions to you guys:

Is somebody here, who already invested in an ICO or even Pre-ICO and can share their experience?
If you haven't invested yet, what actually stops from doing it? Do you feel like there is not enough empirical knowledge out there to predict such investments?

In my opinion not only ICOs but cryptocurrencies (on the blockchain) on the whole have great potential and it's super exciting to follow its path beyond today's boundaries. So, that's all for now. I hope I could awake your interest and get you reading on about this topic.
