Þorgeirskirkja við Ljósavatn
On this Good Friday.
Þorgeirskirkja is new (2000) but its location is of historic significance to the Icelandic nation. Around 1000 AD, the pagan chieftain Þorgeir, who lived here on Ljósavatn farm, consummated Iceland‘s adoption of Christianity by tossing idols of the Norse gods into the nearby Goðafoss (“Waterfall of the Gods”).
