Gardening 101... Or How NOT to Do It

Yesterday, fellow Steemian @kiligirl and my TFAY (Twin From Another Year) wrote about her own gardening incompetence - she called it such, not I. I dunno if it has anything to do with being born on the same day - we'll have to ask her REAL Twin if she suffers from the same malady but I do know we definitely share the same sense of humour!

Anyway, believe it or not, this is what I had to deal with two weeks ago!

A few weeds...

It's not so much that I have no gardening skills. It's more of a certain laziness factor that creeps in. That, and a serious case of procrastination. Or maybe it's dreaming in Technicolor that weeds will stay away from MY garden. Or my Fairy Godmother will wave her wand and POOF! Weeds be gone! It's kind of like having a clean house. I love a clean house, but loathe doing the cleaning. I love having a garden but not a big fan of the tending to it. Feels a tad oxymoronish, doesn't it?

I put the laziness to bed and cleared that area out. Took forever. How can it already look like this two weeks later?

They grow like...weeds!

I digress. Finally this past Wednesday I was only working at 4 pm so I had ample time to go to the wonderful Marché Jean Talon in Little Italy of Montreal. There, I went to my favourite (read handsome, charming, flirtatious) farmer, Frank, of Birri Farms , to purchase a few plants. I know, I know, it is ridiculously late to plant a garden but in my defense, the weather has been shite when I'm off and beautiful when I am working!

Frank was in fine form and laughter and jokes and $72 later, I had me a box of goodies and was off and back home.

I knew I would not have time to plant when I got home. Well, yes, I did have time but then I'd have to re-shower for work. Nobody wants to do that.

Yesterday, I woke up super early (not by choice) and figured I'd get 'er done before going to work for 2. Right. Did anyone ever mention how addictive Steemit is? Before I knew it, it was time to get ready for work!

So, here I am today. Got up, had my coffee, told myself I would only spend a wee bit of time on Steemit and Friday Fictioneers and stepped outside into. The Rain. Awww. COME ON!

So whilst I await the sun, I figured I'd show you that all is not lost with me. After all, check this out!

Nice, eh? Can't tell there was a field of undesirables back there...

How 'bout this?

Why if I had taken care of them by cutting them down last Fall, no way would they be this tall and attempting to bite me as I hang up my clothes!

They would look like this now defunct white rose. Sigh.

Don't be fooled by that greenery around the stump... they be weeds! :)

These ones I did not have time to kill... bad weather last fall stopped me from cutting these back. As a result, they are flourishing.

Just leave me alone. I'm fine without your help

So, as the rain gently falls, I tour my little property trying to take in that which needs to be tended...

Those prickly things - not supposed to be there, right? Was sure I had ripped all those buggers out a few weeks ago!

.... and what looks fine, to my eye, in its wild and natural state!

Best do a little each day or other day, rather than have to swear and sweat every few weeks...
