For the sake of getting 'Likes', Chinese men desperate to Steal 12 Luxury Car Logo
BEIJING - A man in China was arrested by police, caught 12 steals of Mercedes-Benz logo, and recorded it in a video.
The acts of burglary that occurred in Yongkang City, Zheijang Province, conducted with the reason to get likes, or a sign of love in local social media.
Launched from the South China Morning Post on Monday (2/4/2018), the theft was revealed, after complaints from the owners of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, who lost the brand logo on the face.
The man who stole the theft, whose full name was not revealed, was tracked through several surveillance camera records.
To the police, the 25-year-old man, explained that a video about car theft of car logos is becoming a trend in China's online video platform, Douyin.
He thought recording the theft of the Mercedes-Benz logo was the easiest thing to increase traffic on his video channel.
With high traffic, he not only has the potential to become a celebrity among Chinese citizens, but also produces money coffers from monetization activities.
Accidentally Recorded his Theft Action
In performing the action, the man drove a Geely Emgrand brand - made by a local automotive manufacturer - went around town.
Every time he saw a Mercedes-Benz parked car, he stopped to make sure the situation was safe, and then recorded his action prying off the German car's emblem.
Meanwhile, internet users in China are arguing, whether video sharing sites encourage more antisocial, and also dangerous, behavior to get more viewers.
"This platform has let the worst side of humanity, because everyone becomes so focused on seeking attention in ways that are outrageous," one person commented.
However, most people comment that the thief must be held accountable for his criminal acts.
"We watch a lot of things every day (in Douyin), but that does not mean we will imitate it in real life, (theft) it's a thief's problem," another internet user said.
