Bengal Energy to mine Bitcoin using stranded wells in Aussie outback
Canadian oil and gas mining Bengal Energy is set to launch its pilot project to access previously blocked gas wells with portable bitcoin mining rigs. Canadian oil and gas company Bengal Energy is dipping its toes into Bitcoin (BTC) mines as a means of access. Unused power from its gas wells in remote areas of the Australian outback.
According to a report in The Australian, Bengal Energy is ready to conduct a pilot program where approximately 70 bitcoin mining rigs will be housed inside a portable building - known as a donga in the local mining industry - to be assembled around a series. Previously inert gas wells in the Cooper Basin.
The company has acquired gas wells from its local oil and gas extraction partners, Santos Energy and Bridgeport Energy, according to Kai Eberspecher, chief operating officer of Bengal Energy.
