Homesteading challenge, and potted plants awaiting warm nights!

I'm writing this article partly because @kiaraantonoviche is hosting a challenge and partly because I love dirt, and plants, and the thought of warm weather and sunshine and being outside all day! The timing couldn't have been more perfect, I got my seeds in not 2 days ago and saw this challenge last night!

I was really hoping to get some scrap wood together and build some wooden planting pots like @sagescrub https://steemit.com/homesteading/@sagescrub/how-to-wooden-flats-for-seed-propagation
This didn't work out however as I can barely keep my head on straight with a 3 year old and 18 month old underfoot. so I dug out my plastic pots from last year, plunked my soil in, and now do my best to protect them from curious little fingers that love dirt of any kind!

I've got 9 brandy wine tomatoes, 9 Rutgers, Hungarian hot peppers, cayenne peppers, Sumter pickling cukes, zucchini, red cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cantaloupe, watermelonAND I'm trying my hand at tobacco this summer thanks to @wwf and @carey-page for the seeds. They are very delicate and I'm carefully misting them everyday.

Yes that is about 1/2 a foot of snow you can see outside still. These babies won't be transplanted until mid-late may in our frigid part of the world. I will be direct sowing my kale, shard, onions, lettuce, leeks, and other cold lovers in early May. If our root cellar is complete by midsummer i should have plenty of room for seed saving and fermentation projects for harvest! Ok I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's so EXCITING!

Oh gosh! No sowing outside for you at the moment!

That's great! I am always so eager to get plants started every spring. It is a little weird this year. With are living situation and big homesteading project we aren't doing any seed starting or gardening. I'll probably mess around with a few trees though.

Good to hear you are starting seeds. Hope the tobacco grows well. I just started a bunch of seeds. Misting the seeds for the first couple of weeks seems tedious but it does pay off in the end.

Woohoo! You've been entered into the #homesteadingchallenge - upvoted 100%! P.S. Stay warm! It's still cold and snowy where I am as well!
