My little bio garden!

in #homesteading6 years ago

So, about two months ago, thanks to a municipal initiative, I've been given a small piece of land to make an organic vegetable garden.

I was waiting for this for about one year and a half, when I first registered for the program. I was finally called for the first workshop (supposedly I have to attend 75% of the workshops, otherwise I lose the right to work this piece of land). I attended it, where I was familiarized with the basics of vegetables growing, composting, designing and maintaining a vegetable garden.

I got to choose between a lot of available lots. I chose the one nearest to the entrance, which seemed to give me the least amount of work to start with. After all, I'm all alone doing this and I'm not a big strong guy.

After several hours of digging, smoothing, weeding, applying organic compost, and watering, here's how it looked like:

So... Time to start planting! I planned to grow tomatoes, bell peppers, chili peppers, zucchinis and pumpkins, and some other stuff.

Wish me luck!

It's good to see more people that do field work. Hard work always pays out. This year is going to be very good, considering my harvest. Take your time and you will be rewarded. It would be interesting to share some knowlege about composting. Have a nice day!

I don't know much about composting... I'm trying my first batch! But as soon as I get something out of it, sure I'll share with you guys :)

Congratulations and Good Luck with your Little Bio Garden, Hope that you can plant some herbs like basil and thyme too... to make it beautiful. what about pumpkin and zuchini? you'll need to make some rack for it to be able to climb and bear big fruits.

really like to look the progress nect month... Wish You all The best!

Thank you! I already have basil in my balcony! I planted some thyme but it's having a hard time to grow...

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to plant fruit trees...

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to plant fruit trees

Why? Is it because the small size of land? Tree is a great resources for soil water though😯 you can plant the fruit trees like lemon and pear in a pot right? Berries? What about strawberry or raspberry? Passion fruits? Hahaha.. I'm more excited than you..😁

Many people demotivate and end up abandoning their gardens. So they give them to somebody in the waiting list (as I was for one and a half year). The next person may not want that fruit tree and it's a shame to put it down... So they forbid it right from the beginning.

You can of course plant them in a pot, but I'm not sure they would grow that much... Strawberry and raspberry are fine, I think!

I'm happy you're excited about it! Did you consider getting a bit of land yourself as well?

I have a small homegarden here... but still, my favourite plant is PUMPKIN.. hahahaha, berries won't grow in this hot and humid neighbourhood, but passion fruit yes.
By the way.. how long you'll gonna take care of the garden? and what benefit you'll get from it?

I have two pumpkins growing! They're great. Berries love Portugal's clima, although global warming is spoiling it all... Where are you from?

I'm allowed to stay with the garden for as long as I comply with the rules: keep it tidy and working, make my own compost, go to the workshops, and some other minor rules :)

I live in Banten, Indonesia😊 our ancestors called Portugal as Peranggi and CR7 has many fans here.

So it's not yours but as long as you take care of "the little land" you're allowed to have it, but still no fruit trees. Is your pumpkin gonna be like this?

@zpedro you were flagged by a worthless gang of trolls, so, I gave you an upvote to counteract it! Enjoy!!

Thank you sir!

Good luck to you @zpedro. I also started a year ago experimenting. The difference is that I do it in pots. Had good luck with herbs (parsley, chives, basil, rosemary), tomatos, and lettuce.

They're very handy for cooking! I started in pots in my balcony but I wanted more, MORE, MUCH MORE, muhahahahah (now I barely have time for all of it, but that's OK)

I think that is one of the advantages of pot agriculture: less time spent on maintenance. Wish you luck! And may the gods of farming sleep in your garden :D

Specially on the tomatoes, that are having a hard time this year it seems...
