RE: Preparing, for better or worse

in #homesteading5 years ago (edited)

I would love for it to putter out but there’s lots of cancellations and things that haven’t happened before so paying attention here is I think prudent at least.

That's where I was at with this thing. It didn't just start with things happening now with the stock market, oil or any of that as much as the stuff coming out of China that normally didn't come out of China during the rise of a new virus...it wasn't just the videos people were managing to get out but the overcrowded overflowing hospitals, the building of two temporary hospitals in ten days, then quarantining millions of people all led me to believe I needed to start prompting my kids into a heads up on this one. They didn't take me seriously at first, they thought I had lost my mind actually. The weekend before last they finally come to grips that something wasn't sounding quite right this time around and started taking preparations seriously, which took a lot of pressure off me as I was wondering how I'd stock for twelve people if we had to all back up into this place together at some point, at least they can bring their stock loads with them now.

I am a bit like you since I am by myself now I eat entirely different than when I had kids, about the only thing in my back up stock pile I enjoy along that line is tuna fish, otherwise it's pretty mundane stuff meant to last a bit like giant cartons of oatmeal, pancake mix, flour, sugar, yeast and butter to make my own bread if it comes down to that, canned soups, pasta, sauces, etc., you know, the kind of stuff you had around when you had kids basically stretching out the family dollar making casseroles, spaghetti and the likes. It was hard not to be able to grab up large containers of cottage cheese, which I love and my kids hated when they were young, but even though I eat a lot of it I can't eat it fast enough before it goes bad. I am hoping though I will still be able to get a garden of some things growing in the side yard for some fresh stuff but not as much hope as wishing this thing goes away with warmer weather....around here they predict that may be around June...which is still a long haul considering we just went through winter being cooped up mostly inside.
