New Fancy Chickens!!! And Herbal Vinegars
Hello Steemit! How are you today? I am pretty swell myself, life is moving forward oh so slowly. Fall has crept up on us here and as the light begins to fade, harvests are in full swing! And there is still no end to the things to do before winter, and the chilly nights and mornings remind us of that.
The main cool thing that has happened this week is that we just got some new chickens! They are beautiful, funny, fancy chickens. Mostly pure bred heritage breeds, which is exciting. We are slowly moving towards our dreams of being fancy chicken breeders haha. Sadly, however, a couple of our old chickens including our lovely grey rooster went missing and probably got eaten by some wild animal, we are not sure. Thus is the cycle of life, and death is not very abnormal when raising free run chickens! I am just sorta sad I wasn't the one who got to eat them lol.
The little one drinking water is a Cream Crested Legbar! Super pretty with an afro. I named this little hen Afro Honey. The little black one is a red ringed marans chicken, and I have named it Ravenloft (think, DnD). The rooster does not have a name yet, he is 6 months old and the small ones about 3 months, but he seems pretty protective of them and its super cute, and his crow is still developing so it sound really wonky!
So, this little fancy chicken is a Russian orloff! I am calling him/her Fukurou, which means owl in Japanese! These are my new favorite chickens, they are so funny looking with the beard n stuff.
I also made a couple herbal vinegar inspired by Susan Weed telling me how awesome they are all the time on her Time Monk Radio podcast (which is golden). I did not really follow any recipe or anything, I just sorta made it up. Basically, I put a whole bunch of random herbs (rosemary, savory, tarragon, thyme, sage, nasturtium, probably a couple more) in this jar and then put red wine vinegar in there and put a cork in it. Importantly, I put enough herbs in there to be a comfortable fairy mattress (Thanks, Susan Weed http://www.susunweed.com/Article_Herbal_Vinegar2.htm ).
For the root vinegar, I used dandelion root and burdock root and a little bit of sage and savory to fill it up on top. The roots were chopped up and I used apple cider vinegar for this one because I was going for medicinal effect rather then aesthetic (the herbal one I was certainly trying to make it pretty). Yumm, after 6 weeks I will b using this n salad dressing sand basically everything else, medicinal vinegar! Super easy!
ALSO I did some of these things. I listened to Steve Judds astrology on YouTube this morning, I got really really stoned yesterday and hung out at hemp city with my friends yesterday where I drew this super cute cat girl, and a few days ago I picked A LOT of tomatoes and some flowers at Summerhill winery (best job ever)
So, Steemians, my life is great. I have been having a blast. Busy in a sort of magically mundane way, so not too much to share. I know it will be cold again soon and I will be writing a lot and a lot more! So just wait up for that haha, and I will be researching and writing and forging forward in the social media world sooner then later. A switch in energies is coming, from action orientated summer into introspective winter... It just happens so quick.
Thank you all for reading about my awesome life and seeing my new chickens! If you have a rooster name recommendation, please do leave me a comment on that. If it is super awesome and we love it, I will send you a Steem dollar! Keep on Steemin on!
