JUST WHAT IS A RAIN CHAIN ????????

The rain chain has been used for hundreds of years in Japan. They attach to the gutters like a downspout, and direct the rain water down the chain to disperse the water. I started looking into this because we have over 60 foot of gutters on the front of our house. I guess everyone knows that it rains in the Northwest.............. OK don't get me started on that!
So the gutters clog ALL THE TIME, and I was looking for a decorative way to put a downspout in the middle of the run and not make it look bad. With a hole-saw I drilled a hole in the gutter. I then secured this funnel shaped fitting with a couple of sheet metal screws, and attached two 1/4 inch chains that I sprayed black with outdoor Rustoleum.

This top funnel fitting still might be a little to big, I had one chain and I got some swirling at the top. This is why I added a second chain, and I thought that the look would be more rustic. If the water doesn't flow smoothly down the chain I read that a reducer placed in the hole will solve that problem. I'm also going to probably add a splash block to direct the water from the bottom of the chain, away from the deck post.

We have a break in the weather right now (it's NOT raining!)
I will let you know how this turns out when the rain comes back. Hope you enjoyed this do it yourself post. If this gives you any ideas for your gutters, feel free to upvote and/or re-Steem. Thanks @silvertop

That's pretty nifty! We use pipes over here but they get clogged up by tree leaves all the time. This looks like a better solution.

I have pipes over here too, I thought I would add this and giv it a try! 😀
